The International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD) is an Amsterdam-based independent research and educational institute specialising in international taxation, widely regarded as a leading authority in the tax law field. IBFD's Academic Tax Conference (ATC) is an annual event held in May at its Amsterdam headquarters, bringing together academics, judges, practitioners and students with a specific interest in tax law.
The 2027 edition, the fourth in the series, will be held on 13 and 14 May 2027 under the theme "Legal Certainty and Taxation".
The 2027 conference explores the multifaceted dimensions of legal certainty in taxation, examining its foundations, limitations and evolution over time. Submissions are invited that build on national experiences while placing particular emphasis on the comparative legal dimension of legal certainty in tax law.
The call is open to researchers with an interest in tax law, including academics, PhD candidates and other scholars working on the legal dimensions of taxation. Judges, practitioners and students with a specific interest in the conference theme are also welcome to attend.
All submitted abstracts undergo a blind peer-review process conducted by IBFD's scientific editors. Selection results are communicated in October 2026 (exact date not specified by the organiser). Selected researchers present draft papers at the conference in Amsterdam and may subsequently submit finalized papers, which undergo a further round of peer review by the scientific editors for inclusion in the published conference proceedings.
There is no fee to submit an abstract. IBFD's official call for abstracts does not mention any attendance or registration fee; registration for the conference is expected to open once the selection procedure has been completed.
