About the prize

The International Insolvency Institute (III) has announced its 2027 Prize in International Insolvency Studies, awarded for original legal research, commentary or analysis on topics of international insolvency and restructuring significance, and on comparative international analysis of domestic insolvency and restructuring issues and developments. The prize comprises a Gold Medal Prize for the winning submission, a Silver Medal Prize and a Bronze Medal Prize. Entries are judged by a jury of distinguished international academics.

The prize has run for several years: the III's own prize history page lists medal winners from 2005 to 2026, including winners from National Law University, Delhi (2026) and Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, India (2023).

Eligibility

  • Full or part-time undergraduate or graduate students, researchers, or practitioners in practice for nine years or less.
  • A CV should display the candidate's status.
  • The call sets no nationality or jurisdiction restriction, so Indian students and early-career practitioners may apply.
  • Candidates may submit only one contribution.

Topic and submission guidelines

  • The article or research must be on an international or comparative insolvency topic and must be submitted in English.
  • Articles must not have been previously published.
  • Submissions are traditionally scholarly length law review articles or chapters of a manuscript. Full-length manuscripts would not be appropriate; any submission of more than 20,000 words will not be considered.
  • Entries must be available to be posted on the III website and published in the Journal of Bankruptcy Law and Practice (West and Westlaw).
  • The Jury may decide not to award the prize if, in its opinion, no contribution of sufficient quality has been submitted.

Recognition for winners

  • Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal Prizes.
  • Medal-winning entries will be considered for publication in the Norton Journal of Bankruptcy Law and Practice (West) and for inclusion in the Westlaw electronic database.
  • The Gold Medal winner will be honoured at the III Annual International Insolvency Conference in Dublin, Ireland in June 2027, invited to present their work, and the III will cover reasonable travel expenses.
  • All Medal Winners and Finalist Prize recipients may attend the 2027 Annual Conference, and their conference registration fees will be waived.

Fee

The official call does not mention any submission or entry fee.
