About the Emerging Scholars Group and the 5th ILA Annual Conference

The Emerging Scholars Group (ESG), an initiative of the Insolvency Law Academy (ILA), brings together early-career academics, students and young professionals from around the world and provides them opportunities to engage in research and meaningful discourse on insolvency and restructuring laws.

The ESG invites papers for the 5th ILA Annual Conference, to be held at the historic Neemrana Fort-Palace, Rajasthan (India) from 12-14 March 2027. The 4th ESG meeting aims to bring together emerging scholars to present their research, exchange ideas with leading academics and practitioners, and contribute to the evolving scholarship on insolvency and restructuring law at both the national level and across the world.

Themes and Areas of Interest

The ESG is particularly interested in submissions in the following areas:

  • Reimagining the role of courts, tribunals and judges in the insolvency process
  • Insolvency of natural persons, small enterprises, and consumer debt default
  • Group insolvency of multinational corporations
  • Household Debt
  • Turnaround as focus of hybrid restructuring mechanisms
  • Approach to insolvency in enterprises operating complex sectors of economy

The organisers are also happy to consider contributions on other topics, including but not limited to pre-insolvency procedures and digital assets tracing in cross border and international insolvency.

Abstract Submission Guidelines

Expressions of interest should be sent to the ILA ESG Chairpersons, Dr. Jonatan Schytzer and Ms. Ishana Tripathi, at esgchair@insolvencylawacademy.com.

  • Submit a one-page abstract of maximum 400 words.
  • Include your affiliation and preferred contact details.
  • Include a brief biographical note of maximum 200 words.
  • The submission deadline is no later than 31 August 2026.

Applicants seeking an academic grant should additionally explain why attendance at the meeting is important to them, and what benefits they expect to obtain from attendance.

Requirements for Selected Speakers

Selected speakers will be contacted by end of September 2026 and are then expected to submit:

  • a 1,500-word outline of their presentation by 30 October 2026;
  • a 5,000 to 8,000-word article based on their presentation by 30 May 2027.

The selected papers may be published on ILAThinkFactory.

Attendance, Academic Grants and Funding

Presenters of selected papers will have free attendance to the Conference. The accommodation and travel expenses will be borne by the participants.

The ILA ESG Steering Committee is pleased to announce that there are a limited number of academic grants to facilitate attendance at the Conference. These grants are allocated by ILA, in consultation with ILA ESG, on a competitive basis. Applicants seeking a grant must, along with their abstract, explain why attendance is important to them and what benefits they expect from attending.
