The Department of Labour Law, Saveetha School of Law, SIMATS, Chennai is organising the International Conference on Roots, Rights & Recognition: Inclusivity of Transgender in Indian Society on 21 July 2026 (9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) at the New Moot Court Hall, Saveetha School of Law. The conference brings together scholars and practitioners to examine the legal, social and policy dimensions of transgender rights and inclusion in India, with a focus on interdisciplinary and reform-oriented research.

Theme & Sub-themes

Original research papers are invited on the following indicative sub-themes, as well as any topic within the scope of the conference theme:

  • Gender identity and constitutional recognition
  • The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019
  • Labour rights and workplace inclusion
  • Matrimonial and family law perspectives
  • Legal identity and documentation
  • Access to healthcare and welfare
  • Inclusion in sports

  • The judiciary's approach to transgender rights
  • Comparative and international perspectives

Eligibility

The conference is open to academicians, legal professionals, policymakers, researchers, students, healthcare professionals, civil society organisations, media practitioners, and members of the transgender community.

Submission Guidelines

  • Abstract: maximum 250 words, with less than 10% similarity and less than 5% AI-generated content.
  • Full paper: 3,000 to 5,000 words.
  • Formatting: Times New Roman, 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing.
  • Citation style: ILI or OSCOLA.
  • Co-authorship is permitted.

Registration & Fee

  • Student: Rs 500 (author) / Rs 700 (co-author)
  • PhD Scholar: Rs 700 (author) / Rs 1,100 (co-author)
  • Academician / Professional: Rs 1,000 (author) / Rs 1,400 (co-author)
  • Offline Audience: Rs 150

How to Apply

Submit your abstract through the abstract submission Google Form and complete registration and payment through the official registration form. Abstracts are due by 17 July 2026, full papers by 19 July 2026, and registration and payment by 19 July 2026.
