About the Conference

The International Maritime Conference 2026 on the theme Maritime Policy, Governance and Sustainability is organised by the Centre for International Law and Policy (CILP), School of Legal Studies, REVA University, Bengaluru. The conference is ICSSR-sponsored and is being held in collaboration with the Indian Maritime University, Chennai.

Scheduled for 16-18 September 2026 in hybrid mode at REVA University, Bengaluru, the conference brings together academics, researchers, policymakers and practitioners to deliberate on the evolving legal, regulatory and sustainability dimensions of the maritime domain. Discussions will span ocean governance, the law of the sea, shipping and trade law, marine environmental protection and the rights of seafarers.

Theme & Sub-themes

The central theme of the conference is Maritime Policy, Governance and Sustainability. Sub-themes include (but are not limited to):

  • Evolution of ocean governance
  • Maritime territorial disputes and seabed governance
  • Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) and sustainable fisheries (FAO / WTO frameworks)
  • Marine biodiversity conservation
  • Shipping contracts in digitalised supply chains
  • Risk allocation and marine insurance
  • Carriage of goods by sea (from the Hague Rules to the Rotterdam Rules)
  • State responsibility for marine pollution
  • Green shipping and alternative fuels
  • Seafarers' rights

Who Can Submit

The conference invites submissions from academicians, researchers, legal practitioners, policymakers, industry professionals and students with an interest in maritime law, ocean governance and sustainability. Co-authorship is permitted up to a maximum of two authors per submission.

Submission Guidelines

  • Abstract: Maximum 300 words.
  • Co-authorship: Maximum of two authors per paper.
  • Review: Submissions are evaluated through a double-blind peer review process.
  • Acceptance: Abstracts are accepted on a rolling basis.
  • Full paper: To be submitted by the full-paper deadline following abstract acceptance.

Publication

Selected papers may be considered for publication in an edited volume / conference proceedings, or in a Scopus-indexed partner journal. Please note that the conference itself is not a Scopus-indexed journal; publication in any Scopus-indexed outlet is at the discretion of the partner journal and subject to its independent review process.
