About the internship

The Secretariat of the Asian African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) invites applications from students of Asian-African countries for an internship at its permanent headquarters in New Delhi. AALCO is an intergovernmental organisation that serves as an advisory body to its Member States on international law and works on the codification and progressive development of international law on topics in its work programme.

The programme offers law and international relations students an opportunity to learn the day-to-day functions of an intergovernmental organisation and gain hands-on exposure to the working of international law.

Eligibility

  • Students from Asian-African countries (the Secretariat is headquartered in India).
  • At least 18 years old at the time of application.
  • Completed at least three years of undergraduate university education in Law or International Relations from a recognised university; all third-year students and above with a strong academic background may apply.
  • Undergraduate law applicants should preferably have completed a course in International Law at the time of application.
  • Recent graduates are also eligible.

Duration

A minimum of one month (four weeks), extendable up to three months. Internship opportunities are offered throughout the year.

Stipend and costs

Unpaid. AALCO states that it does not provide a stipend or monetary remuneration, and all candidates must cover their own transportation and stay in New Delhi.

Certificate

The AALCO Secretariat awards an internship certificate on successful completion of the internship.

How to apply

Apply only through the official online AALCO Internship Application Form. Applications received by email or post will not be considered.

  • Fill in personal and academic details, a statement of motivation (maximum 200 words), learning expectations (maximum 200 words) an optional note on research, professional, internship or social experience (maximum 200 words), and the preferred internship start and end dates.
  • Attach a recent passport-size photograph (jpg; the form accepts gif, jpg, jpeg or png up to 1 MB).
  • Attach a Letter of Recommendation in PDF (up to 2 MB) from an academic who has taught you in law school, someone familiar with your work, or the head of your institution.

Applications should be made two months before the preferred start date. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

Deadline

Rolling: internships are offered throughout the year and there is no closing date. Apply at least two months ahead of your preferred internship period.
