Internship (Municipal Law & Policy) at Janaagraha, Bengaluru

Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy is a Bengaluru-based non-profit working to transform the quality of life in India's cities and towns. It partners with citizens and governments to strengthen urban governance through research, advocacy and reform of municipal law, public finance and civic participation.

Janaagraha is offering a six-month, full-time, paid internship (July to December 2026) with its Municipal Law and Policy work, based in-office in Bengaluru. This is an opportunity to engage directly with research and analysis on municipal governance, decentralisation and public finance in Indian cities.

• Collect and analyse data on urban governance, including municipal staffing, devolution of funds, functions and functionaries, and municipal budgets across cities and states.
• Conduct research on existing municipal acts, regulations and policies in various cities and states.
• Draft thematic notes on urban governance issues and track policy developments in the urban sector.
• Support the team with data visualisation and reporting.

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree (or equivalent) in Law, Development Studies, Economics, Public Policy, Social Sciences or a related discipline.
• Proficiency in the MS Office suite, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint, with knowledge of data analysis and visualisation.
• Previous research or work experience related to urban governance, law and policy is preferred.
• Candidates should be passionate about public policy, local governance and the challenges facing Indian cities.

Six months, from July to December 2026. This is a full-time, in-office internship based at Janaagraha's office in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

This is a paid internship. The stipend amount is disclosed by Janaagraha during the application and selection process.
