The Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies at the European University Institute (EUI), Florence, offers one-year Jean Monnet Fellowships for the academic year 2027-28. The programme is open to post-docs, tenure-track academics and those wishing to spend their sabbatical at the Centre. The Centre offers up to 20 fellowships a year.
Jean Monnet Fellows are based at the Robert Schuman Centre and associated with one of its projects and programmes. They are expected to take an active part in the academic life of the Centre, can join the activities of the EUI postdoctoral programme, and are encouraged to collaborate with researchers, other postdocs and EUI academic staff. The research proposal should fit one of the Centre's main research themes, programmes and projects, which include the Centre for Judicial Cooperation, the Florence School of Regulation, the Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom, the Centre for a Digital Society, the Migration Policy Centre, the European Governance and Politics Programme and the Global Governance Programme.
The fellowship runs for one year (12 months from September to August), starting 1 September 2027. Fellows must live in the area of Florence for the duration of the fellowship. The research done during the fellowship should lead to a publication, as an EUI Working Paper, in a scientific journal or with a reputable academic publisher.
The letter of motivation and research proposal must meet the EUI Guidelines for the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence for Research: candidates should not have generative AI write substantial parts of the documents, and must acknowledge any AI-generated content.
Candidates are selected by the academic staff of the Robert Schuman Centre on the basis of the application documents and references; there are no interviews. The main criteria are the applicant's CV, the overall scientific quality of the proposal and its fit with the research programme of the Centre. Nominations are approved by the EUI Executive Committee. All candidates are informed by email by the end of January at the latest.
Apply through the EUI online application form (Osiris). Register your application, with your personal and referee details, as early as possible so that your referees receive the automatic reference request in time. You may keep working on the application until the deadline.
Applications must be submitted online by 23 October 2026 at 14:00 CEST (5:30 PM IST), after which the online form is not active. Your two referees must submit their letters online by the same time; references are not accepted after the deadline. An application can be considered without references, but the EUI says references play an important part in the selection, so make sure both arrive in time.
