The Jean-Pictet Competition is open for team applications for its 2027 editions. The Competition offers two ways to take part: on a student team, once in a lifetime, or as a volunteer, edition after edition. Selection of teams is on written application: an application form and written answers to selection questions. Every test of the Competition itself is then oral.
An edition is held in a single language, French or English. Several editions take place each year, and the Competition sees to it that both languages are represented every year.
Teams of three students from the same institution who have never taken part in the Competition. Most participants study law, but the Competition also values strategy, negotiation and role-play. An institution may enter one team per language. The precise conditions, including age and derogations, are set by each edition’s Regulations.
The Competition Regulations set the eligibility conditions, the phases and the teams’ commitments. The version in force is published with each application campaign, together with the documents to provide (CV, university attestation). The 2027 Regulations are available as a PDF from the Competition’s participation page.
There is a participation fee per team, plus travel. The page does not state the amount. Lodging and meals on site are covered by the Competition. In exceptional cases, the Universality Fund can give financial support to some teams.
Teams apply through the online team application form for Pictet 2027. Applications are open until 8 November 2026 at 18:00 (GMT+1). Complete the form in English for Pictet 51 and 53, and in French for Pictet 52. Fields marked with an asterisk are required. The form has 6 steps; the first step covers the team and the university responsible.
The Competition runs on some forty volunteers per edition, all Competition alumni or IHL experts: judges, tutors (who accompany the teams), petits bras (logistics and document distribution) and the “kitchen” team, which writes the tests. The CCJP covers volunteers’ lodging and meals for the duration of the edition.
