About the journal

The Journal for Dispute Resolution (JDR) is the open-access, biannual and double-blind peer-reviewed journal of Maharashtra National Law University, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, run by the university's Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (CADR). It offers a platform for discourse on contemporary legal issues surrounding ADR in India and in international jurisdictions. JDR released Volume I in July 2023, Volume II in May 2024, Volume III in August 2025 and Volume IV Issue I in August 2026. It now invites original, previously unpublished work for Volume IV Issue II.

Theme and sub-themes

Theme: Pluralism in Dispute Resolution: Bridging Individual Rights, Community Interests, and Corporate Governance.

  • Individual-Centric ADR: Access to Justice, Family, and Human Rights
  • Community & Informal Sector ADR: Collective Rights, Labor, and Public Policy
  • Corporate & Institutional ADR: ESG, Global Commerce, and Governance

The sub-themes are only suggestive. The journal welcomes submissions on any contemporary topic related to domestic and international arbitration and other Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms.

Eligibility and authorship

  • Students, academicians, professionals and doctoral researchers may submit.
  • Co-authorship of up to two authors is allowed.
  • Each author or co-author team is limited to one submission.
  • Submissions are accepted in English only.

Categories and word limits

  • Long Articles: 4,000 to 8,000 words, with an abstract of 200 words
  • Short Articles: 2,500 to 3,500 words, with an abstract of 200 words
  • Case Comments: 2,000 to 3,000 words
  • Legislative/Policy Comments: 2,500 to 3,500 words, with an abstract of 200 words

Word counts are exclusive of footnotes. The notification states a relaxation of up to 10% at the discretion of the Editorial Board.

Formatting and citation

  • Main text in Times Roman, size 12, line spacing 1.5; footnotes in Times Roman, size 10, line spacing 1.
  • Citation style: Bluebook (21st Edition).
  • Each submission must carry an abstract of not more than 200 words and five keywords.
  • Manuscripts must be in MS-Word (.docx) format and must not contain any reference to the author's identity. Author and affiliation details are captured only through the Google Form.
  • Submissions that do not follow the guidelines will not be considered for review.

Review process and editorial policy

  • Three stages: a preliminary check (AI-assisted screening and plagiarism check), review by the Student Editorial Board, and double-blind peer review by the Peer Review Board.
  • Plagiarised manuscripts will be rejected. The journal follows a strict AI policy: AI-generated content is tolerated only up to 10%, and zero AI-generated content is encouraged.
  • Work must be original, unpublished and not under consideration elsewhere. Copyright in accepted contributions vests with JDR.
  • Decisions of the Editorial Board are final.

Fee

The official notification states that there are no submission fees, publication fees or page charges for this journal. JDR is open access, and its content is freely available on the university's website.

How to apply

Submit through the official Google Form by 1 January 2027. The form asks for author and co-author details and two document uploads (maximum 10 MB each): the abstract (mandatory for Long and Short Articles) and the anonymised manuscript as a Word document. The form requires a Google account sign-in to upload files. Articles mailed directly to the JDR email address will not be considered.
