Judicial Internship at the Office of Hon'ble Mr. Justice J.B. Pardiwala, Supreme Court of India, New Delhi (September to December 2026 Batches; 1 Month)

The Office of Hon'ble Mr. Justice J.B. Pardiwala, Judge, Supreme Court of India, is accepting applications for judicial internships in its chamber at the Supreme Court of India, New Delhi. The office runs its intake through its own application form, which sets out the rules that govern the internship and asks every applicant to submit a written research memo along with the application.

Each internship runs for one month only and begins on the first day of the month. The application form currently offers a choice of four months: September, October, November and December 2026.

Justice Jamshed Burjor Pardiwala was born on 12 August 1965 at Mumbai. He obtained his law degree from K.M. Law College, Valsad in 1988 and enrolled as an advocate on 18 November 1988, beginning practice at Valsad before moving to the Gujarat High Court at Ahmedabad in September 1990.

He was a member of the Bar Council of Gujarat from 1994 to 2000, a nominated member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Bar Council of India, and a member of the Gujarat High Court Legal Services Authority. He served as Standing Counsel for the High Court of Gujarat and its subordinate courts from 2002 until his elevation to the Bench. He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Gujarat on 17 February 2011 and confirmed as a permanent Judge on 28 January 2013. On 9 May 2022 he was elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India.

Applications are open to students who are currently enrolled in:

• the 2nd or 3rd year of a three-year LLB course; or
• the 3rd, 4th or 5th year of a five-year LLB course.

• Each internship is for a period of one month only, starting from the first day of the month.
• The application form lets an applicant choose one month from September, October, November or December 2026.
• The office does not offer virtual or remote internships. The internship is in person at the judge's chamber at the Supreme Court of India, New Delhi.

The office states that there shall be no stipend, allowance or reimbursement of any kind for undergoing the internship. It is an unpaid judicial internship.

Intimation of confirmation is given by email one to two weeks prior to the commencement of the internship. Applicants who are not selected should not expect separate correspondence.

The form is a substantive application rather than a simple expression of interest. Alongside the applicant's name, email address and contact number, and the choice of internship month, it requires:

• a curriculum vitae, uploaded as a single PDF of up to 10 MB;
• a statement in not more than 150 words explaining why the applicant wishes to intern at the office; and
• a research memo of not more than 1500 words on a proposition set out in the form, uploaded as a single PDF or document of up to 10 MB.

The proposition set in the current form is a civil procedure problem arising out of a mortgage decree and a court auction sale. It asks whether a suit for declaration of title filed by a person who had purchased part of the mortgaged property after the decree was maintainable, what remedy was available to him before the executing court under Order XXI of the Code of Civil Procedure, and specifically whether he was eligible to apply under Rule 90 of Order XXI and whether he suffered any "substantial injury" within the meaning of that rule. The office does not publish a single closing date. Its rule is that applications must be submitted no later than three weeks before the period of commencement of the internship. Working that rule against each month the form offers gives the following last dates to apply:

• October 2026 batch: apply by 10 September 2026
• November 2026 batch: apply by 11 October 2026
• December 2026 batch: apply by 10 November 2026

The form still lists September 2026 as a selectable month, but the three-week cut-off for a 1 September start fell on 11 August 2026 and has already passed. October 2026 is the earliest batch still realistically open. These dates are worked out from the office's own three-week rule; they are not dates the office has separately published.

Apply only through the official application form of the office, linked below. The office states that no separate correspondence or email applications shall be entertained, so there is no alternative application route and no query email to write to.

The form requires the applicant to be signed in to a Google account, and records the name, email address and photo associated with that account when files are uploaded. Prepare the curriculum vitae, the 150-word statement and the research memo before opening the form, since all three are mandatory uploads or answers.
