Overview

The Kautilya Society at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University (RMLNLU), Lucknow, invites blog submissions for its student-run policy and law blog. This is an open, rolling call: you can send your piece at any time, and the Society publishes thoughtful, well-argued writing on contemporary legal and policy questions. To help you focus, a fresh suggestive theme is announced every month on the Society's Instagram and LinkedIn, but you are free to write on any relevant law-and-policy issue.

There is no entry fee. Submissions are made by email only, and accepted pieces are published on the Kautilya Society's blog platform.

About the organiser

Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University (RMLNLU) is a public National Law University in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, established in 2005 (originally as the Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law Institute). It offers undergraduate and postgraduate legal education.

The Kautilya Society is a student-led policy and law society at RMLNLU, run as part of the framework of the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, an independent legal think-tank established in 2013. Drawing its name from the ancient Indian economist and philosopher Kautilya, the Society works to build a deeper understanding of contemporary policy issues through blogs, podcasts, independent research projects, and its "Book Adda" and "Policy Adda" initiatives. It collaborates with law firms and policy think-tanks to give students hands-on exposure to real-world policy work.

Suggested themes (October-November 2025 cycle)

The themes the Society highlighted for the October-November 2025 cycle were:

  • Gaps, exclusions, and the future of workplace justice under the POSH framework
  • Immigration, sovereignty, and talent flow: domestic reform and international challenges
  • The future of sports governance in India: balancing reform, autonomy, and accountability
  • Reimagining India's fiscal future: the twin overhauls of direct and indirect taxation

These themes are only suggestive and not exhaustive. A new theme is announced each month on the Kautilya Society's Instagram and LinkedIn pages, so check those channels for the current month's prompt before you write, or pitch your own law-and-policy topic.

Who can apply

The blog is open to law students and others interested in contributing reflective, well-researched writing on legal and policy issues. There is no restriction on year of study or institution stated in the call. Your piece simply needs to be original, unpublished, and relevant to contemporary law and policy.

Submission guidelines

  • Originality: Articles must be original and unpublished. Plagiarised content is highly discouraged.
  • File format: Submit in Microsoft Word format. Name the file as "author's name_submission".
  • Keywords: Provide 4-5 keywords suited to the theme and content of your piece.
  • Citations: Use hyperlinks rather than footnotes where possible. For sources that cannot be linked, use OSCOLA (4th edition) style in the footnotes.
  • Word limit: Articles should not exceed 1500-1600 words except under extreme circumstances. Longer work can run as a blog series with the editors' permission.
  • Language and formatting: Use British English. Italicise text to add emphasis.

Pieces are evaluated on three main criteria: relevance, content, and language. The editors favour perspectives not adequately covered elsewhere. Non-compliance with the guidelines may lead to a longer review period or your submission being returned for changes.

What it costs

Nothing. There is no submission fee or publication charge for the Kautilya Society blog.

Deadline and timeline

Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis, so there is no single closing date. Send your piece whenever it is ready. Each month a new suggestive theme goes up on the Society's Instagram and LinkedIn. Note that the listed July 2026 date on this post is only a near-term marker to keep the listing current; the call itself remains continuously open.

Important: entries sent through any platform other than email will not be considered.
