Legal Associate at Matter Entertainment, Mumbai (1-2 yrs, Media & IP)

Matter Entertainment is hiring a Legal Associate to join its in-house legal team in Mumbai. If you enjoy contracts, intellectual property, and the fast-moving world of entertainment, this role puts you in the middle of talent engagements, production deals, brand endorsements, and licensing work. Matter Entertainment is an entertainment and content production company that works with leading creative talent across direction, screenwriting, and publishing to create entertainment for the global Indian audience. Alongside talent management, the company offers integrated capabilities of content curation, development, and full-scale production.

You will join the in-house legal team and own a broad mix of commercial and IP work in the entertainment space. Day to day, you can expect to:

• Draft, review, negotiate, and finalise contracts relating to talent engagements, production, distribution, licensing, brand endorsements, media appearances, and intellectual property rights across formats.
• Collaborate with clients, production teams, talent, external counsel, and internal teams to close contracts on time.
• Identify and mitigate legal risks in contracts and provide practical legal guidance.
• Provide legal support on copyright, trademark, and other IP matters.
• Stay current on developments in entertainment law and IP legislation, and put internal updates in place when needed.
• Assist with due diligence, legal research, and other legal projects as required.

• LL.B. degree from a recognised institution.
• Bar Council of India enrolment will be preferred.
• 1-2 years of experience, ideally in media, entertainment, and intellectual property law.
• Expertise in intellectual property rights, including copyright, trademarks, licensing agreements, and distribution contracts.
• Strong drafting, negotiation, legal writing, and research skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Genuine interest in the entertainment industry and its evolving legal landscape.
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks governing media, entertainment, and intellectual property in India and internationally.

This is an on-site role based in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
