Legal Associate at Unilever, Bangalore (3-5 yrs PQE)

Unilever is hiring a Legal Associate for its Legal Powerhouse at the Uniops Bangalore Centre. This is a full-time, permanent role within Unilever's global Legal Function, supporting the Europe and Greater Asia markets on contracting, governance, compliance and legal research. This role sits inside the Unilever Legal Powerhouse in Bangalore, a team of around 60 colleagues, which is itself part of a global legal operation of approximately 500 lawyers and specialists. The Bangalore team works alongside the Uni Ops function, a wider team powering Unilever's operations through technology and innovation.

As part of the Market Legal team, you will support Unilever's Europe and Greater Asia markets with legal research, analysis and operational tasks. Core responsibilities include:

• Contracting: Negotiating terms and conditions with third parties, influencing them to accept Unilever's standard templates or negotiating their templates with changes that suit Unilever's interests; ensuring adequate schedules are included so supplier contract risk is properly managed.
• Governance and compliance: Understanding changes to standard clauses, highlighting deviations and risks, keeping internal contract templates accurate and up to date, and identifying ways to improve contract processes.
• Stakeholder management: Building and managing relationships across Legal, Procurement, Finance, Digital Marketing, HR and local Data Protection Officers.
• Operations: Maintaining accurate records and files, submitting documents to official entities, supporting contract administration, and championing simplification and the use of technology to improve legal services.

Key interfaces include Legal (including external counsel), Procurement and Data Privacy.

Unilever is looking for candidates with:

• A professional qualification in Law.
• 3-5 years of hands-on experience in a contract drafting, reviewing and negotiating role.
• Industry experience in a large, complex business environment requiring data analysis and balanced risk decisions.
• Contract negotiation skills from both a legal and procurement perspective.
• Excellent communication and the ability to work with colleagues across multiple time zones and countries.

Preferred (not mandatory): experience within a consumer goods or retail environment, and an understanding of procurement and legal aspects of supplier relationships.
