Overview

The Karnataka Appellate Tribunal (KAT) is inviting applications from eligible law students for its Law Internship Programme 2026 at its Bengaluru office. As an intern, you will assist the Hon'ble Chairperson and Members in the Tribunal's daily functioning, judicial records and case research.

This is an unpaid, on-site internship of 6 to 8 weeks, and applications are accepted on a rolling basis with no fixed deadline. A certificate is provided on successful evaluation of your completion report.

About the Tribunal

The Karnataka Appellate Tribunal is a government tribunal based at the M.S. Building in Bengaluru. It hears appeals and revisions under various State statutes, and interning here gives you a close view of how a quasi-judicial body functions day to day.

The role and what you'll do

  • Assist judicial and legal officers with case file reviews.
  • Conduct extensive research on relevant statutory provisions and case laws.
  • Observe court/tribunal proceedings and help maintain judicial records.
  • Compile a comprehensive research report/paper at the end of the internship.

Who can apply (eligibility)

  • You must be enrolled in a recognised 3-year or 5-year LL.B. degree programme.
  • Preference is typically given to students in their 3rd year or higher for 5-year courses, and 2nd year or higher for 3-year courses.
  • You should possess strong legal research and drafting skills.

Duration and stipend

Duration: 6 to 8 weeks.

Stipend: This internship is unpaid. A certificate is awarded upon successful evaluation of your completion report.

Mode: Offline / in-office at the Tribunal's Bengaluru premises.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Shortlisted candidates will be invited by the Competent Authority to undertake the internship.

  • Recommendation letter issued by the Dean or an authorised faculty member of your law college/university, addressed to the Registrar of the Karnataka Appellate Tribunal.
  • Valid student identity card issued by your educational institution.
