Overview

Tata Trusts is hiring a Legal Officer, Contracts & Advisory to join its Legal function in Mumbai. This is an on-roll, full-time position (graded equivalent to Grade 4) reporting to the Senior Manager, Legal. If you are a qualified lawyer with five to eight years of post-qualification experience in contracts and compliance work, this role puts you at the centre of one of India's oldest and most respected philanthropic organisations.

You will own contractual assignments end to end, advise on compliance and regulatory matters, and support dispute handling, all while working independently and collaborating across teams. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, so it is worth applying early.

About Tata Trusts

Tata Trusts is among India's oldest philanthropic organisations, with a legacy of more than a century of grant-making and direct development work. Through its programmes across health, nutrition, education, water, livelihoods, digital transformation and more, the Trusts work to improve the quality of life of communities across the country. The Legal function supports this work by managing contracts, compliance and advisory matters across the organisation.

The role

As Legal Officer, Contracts & Advisory, your work spans three broad areas:

Contractual assignments

  • Independently draft, negotiate and finalise agreements, including grant letters, services agreements, procurement agreements, EPC / infrastructure project contracts, memoranda of understanding, work orders, purchase orders and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Provide post-execution support, including advising on compliances and obligations and preparing documents for amendments, breach notices and termination notices.
  • Review and update templates of agreements and purchase orders, and develop standard operating procedures for contractual matters and processes.
  • Maintain trackers and a repository of executed contracts.

Legal compliance & advisory

  • Implement a compliance framework for data privacy laws under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
  • Advise on legal and regulatory matters and compliances, such as labour and employment laws.
  • Implement and manage a legal compliance tool for statutory compliance and advise on the legal aspects of various statutory compliance requirements.

Disputes matters

  • Handle contentious and dispute matters, including drafting and reviewing applications, petitions and other legal submissions, briefing counsel and attending court proceedings.

Who can apply

You are a strong fit if you have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in law (LL.B.) from a reputed university in India.
  • 5 to 8 years of post-qualification work experience, with preference for candidates who have worked in a well-recognised law firm.
  • A strong background handling contractual assignments and compliance / advisory matters, with a solid understanding of relevant laws and regulations, including the Companies Act, 2013, data privacy laws (DPDP Act), employment laws, the CSR framework and FCRA.
  • The ability to independently review and interpret complex contracts, identify risks and communicate actionable recommendations.

The Trusts also look for excellent drafting, research, communication and stakeholder-management skills; a proactive, committed and analytical, solution-oriented approach; strong attention to detail; and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively across cross-functional teams.
