The Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy is an independent think-tank that does legal research to make better laws and improve governance for the public good. Vidhi Bengal is its small team of lawyers in Kolkata working on law and policy issues in West Bengal. The team engages with various departments of the West Bengal State Government and also undertakes independent legal research.

What Interns Do

Interns at Vidhi Bengal will have the opportunity to:

Conduct research on cutting-edge issues of law and policy affecting West Bengal.
Assist with drafting legislation and independent reports.

Who Can Apply

Students pursuing graduate or post-graduate courses in recognised law programmes.
Students of allied courses in public policy.
Only students who can be physically available in Kolkata may apply. Vidhi Bengal does not offer remote internships.

Mode, Stipend and Duration

Mode: In person in Kolkata. No remote internships.
Stipend: The notice does not mention a stipend.
Duration: The notice does not specify a duration.

When to Apply (Two-Month Rule)

Internships are offered on a rolling basis throughout the year, so there is no single closing date. However, Vidhi Bengal will not consider any application submitted less than two months before the intended start date. For example, for an internship starting on 1 December, the application must be in by 1 October.

Successful applicants will be told at least a month before the internship begins. Generally only successful applicants are contacted; because of the volume of applications, the team may not be able to write to everyone about the status of their application.

Apply through Vidhi Bengal's online application form (linked below). Along with the details asked for in the form and your resume, you must submit a writing sample on any legal or policy issue. The writing sample should not exceed 2,000 words and may be an excerpt from something you have written before.
