About the programme

The Faculty of Law of the National University of Singapore (NUS Law) is accepting applications to its Master of Laws (LLM) by coursework for the August 2027 intake. The application period runs from 1 September 2026 to 15 October 2026. NUS Law holds only one admission exercise for each academic year, and successful applicants matriculate in August 2027.

All students are enrolled as LLM candidates and may either complete the units and compulsory courses for a specialisation, or take any 40 to 44 units of courses and graduate with an LLM with no specialisation. The LLM is full-time over one year. The Maritime Law specialisation may be taken part-time over two years only by students working for Singapore-based companies (an employer support letter is required); overseas students normally complete it full-time in one year.

Specialisations

  • Asian Legal Studies
  • Corporate & Financial Services Law
  • Intellectual Property & Technology Law
  • International Arbitration & Dispute Resolution
  • International & Comparative Law (NUS Law states this is proposed to be discontinued with effect from AY2027/2028, subject to the receipt of requisite approvals)
  • Maritime Law
  • LLM in International Business Law, taught with the East China University of Political Science and Law: Semester 1 in Singapore and Semester 2 in Shanghai

Applicants may apply for only ONE LLM programme (with or without specialisation). If more than one application is submitted, only the latest submission is considered.

Eligibility

  • A good Bachelor's degree in Law.
  • A minimum TOEFL iBT total score of 100 (old system) or 5 (new system), or a minimum overall band score of 7.0 in IELTS (Academic).
  • The English test is mandatory for all applicants except those with an undergraduate degree from a university in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, the United Kingdom or the United States. Other applicants (including those from India) may seek a waiver by uploading an official university document (transcript, degree certificate or letter) stating that the medium of instruction for the degree was English; waivers are considered case by case.
  • Only test scores dated from 1 September 2024 onwards are accepted.
  • Applicants who have not yet graduated upload interim transcripts and a status letter from their school giving the projected graduation date; offer holders must have certified true copies of final transcripts and degree certificates reach NUS Law by 30 June 2027.

The application checklist provides for international applicants, who upload their passport biodata page as national ID.

Documents required

  • Passport biodata page (international applicants)
  • CV or resume
  • Transcripts from Bachelor's or Master's degree (interim results if not yet graduated) and the grading system
  • Degree certificates, or a status letter from your school with the projected date of graduation
  • Official TOEFL or IELTS (Academic) score report, or a waiver request
  • Names and institutional email addresses of two academic or professional referees
  • Optional: a personal statement, and a one-page scholarship write-up

Applications will not be considered if the documents in the checklist are not provided by the application deadline. Supporting documents are not accepted by email or post unless NUS Law specifically requests them. The full checklist (6 pages) is attached as the brochure.

Fees

  • Application fee: S$50 for all LLM programmes except International Business Law; S$100 for the LLM in International Business Law.
  • Acceptance fee: S$3,270, payable upon acceptance of an admission offer and applied to offset the tuition fee in the first semester.

Fees are non-refundable and non-transferable and are inclusive of prevailing GST.

Scholarships

For the LLM programme, scholarships covering full or partial tuition fees are awarded at the sole discretion of the NUS Selection Committee, primarily on merit, and are highly competitive; no separate application is required. Applicants who wish to be considered should indicate "Scholarship" under "Source of Finance" in the GDA3 application and may voluntarily upload a one-page write-up on why they should be awarded a scholarship. NUS Law encourages applicants to secure alternative financing in case they are not awarded a scholarship.

How to apply

Apply online through the NUS Graduate Admission System (GDA3). The email address used to create your GDA3 account becomes your login ID and the only channel through which NUS Law will contact you.

Applications must be submitted by 11:59 pm Singapore Time (GMT+8) on 15 October 2026, which is 9:29 pm IST on 15 October 2026.

If your GDA3 status does not show "under initial review" within five business days of paying the application fee, email lawgradadm@nus.edu.sg with proof of payment, quoting your application number and programme.

After you apply

  • Applications are reviewed after the closing date.
  • The original official TOEFL or IELTS score report must also be sent by post to NUS Law Graduate Programme Admissions by 15 October 2026.
  • Both referees must submit their reports online by 29 October 2026.
  • All LLM application outcomes will be released by mid-February to your GDA3 registered email address.
  • If you receive an offer, certified true copies of your official final transcripts and degree certificates must reach NUS Law by 30 June 2027.

Note: the separate Graduate Diploma programmes at NUS Law have a later application window, 1 September 2026 to 30 November 2026; this does not apply to the LLM.
