Overview

JioStar is hiring a Manager - Legal and Regulatory for its Sports business legal team in Mumbai. This is a full-time, in-office role for a lawyer who wants to work at the centre of high-value sports media deals, advising on media rights, advertising, content and operational matters for one of India's largest media and entertainment platforms.

If you enjoy fast-moving, time-sensitive work and want exposure to complex sports media rights bids and commercial contracts, this role puts you right in the middle of it.

About JioStar

JioStar is a leading Indian media and entertainment company that operates a large portfolio of television channels and the JioHotstar streaming service across entertainment and sports. Its sports business handles some of the most-watched live sporting properties in the country, which means its legal team works on substantial media rights, broadcasting and commercial arrangements.

The role

You will be part of the Sports business legal team and provide legal support on the channels assigned to you. Day to day, the work spans media rights documentation, contract review, business advisory and ad sales support.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working on media rights tenders and documentation related to the acquisition of sports media properties
  • Reviewing and interpreting complex contracts, particularly sports media rights and slot sale agreements, and advising on and addressing related queries
  • Supporting operational queries from the business team, including operationalisation of sports properties, general advisory, correspondence with licensor boards and periodic rights analyses
  • Advising on ad sales initiatives such as branded content, sales activations and event campaigns, and overseeing day-to-day approvals for ad creatives
  • Handling marketing activations for sports properties, including approvals for campaigns, promotional requests and contests
  • Contributing to highly time-sensitive, high-value and critical projects, including complex sports media rights bids
  • Summarising key provisions across sports-related agreements and helping maintain online tracking systems
  • Drafting and navigating a wide range of contracts, including talent, endorsement, agency, sub-licensing, distribution, ad sales, production and other service or operational agreements, in collaboration with business teams
  • Collaborating internally and externally, including with legal and business or operational teams, while providing day-to-day legal guidance

Who can apply

This role suits a lawyer with:

  • Strong knowledge and experience in contract law, intellectual property rights (including copyright), gaming laws and advertising laws
  • Experience working on media rights tenders and documentation for the acquisition of sports media properties
  • Strong legal acumen to review and interpret complex contracts, especially sports media rights and slot sale agreements
  • Strong drafting and negotiating skills
  • Good communication skills

Note: the official posting did not specify a fixed number of years of post-qualification experience. Confirm the experience level on the application page or at the screening stage.

Location and type

This is a full-time position based at JioStar's Mumbai office (Mumbai - OUC), India. The compensation is not disclosed in the official posting; salary discussions typically happen during the selection process.
