About the Masterclass

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru is hosting a masterclass designed to introduce students to political philosophy through Plato's classical work, the Republic. The session will be led by Dr. Nigam Nuggehalli, Professor of Law at NLSIU.

Session Content

The programme examines Plato's Republic, written around 380 BCE, in which Socrates explores a fundamental question: what is justice, and how should society be organised to achieve it? Participants engage with the text and its central ideas over a single interactive session.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the nature of political philosophy
  • Explain the historical context of Classical Athens
  • Identify the key themes of the Republic
  • Analyse Plato's views on justice and governance
  • Evaluate the relevance of Plato's ideas today

Eligibility

The masterclass is aimed at students in Class 11 and Class 12 across streams (Social Sciences, Humanities, Science or Commerce). Students from Grade 10 and undergraduate programmes are also welcome to apply, and subject to seat availability, eligible applicants may be accommodated.

Participation Fee

The participation fee is Rs. 2,000. Lunch and a guided campus tour are included at no additional cost.

How to Apply

Interested applicants must complete the online application form by 4 August 2026. After approval, participants receive a payment link within 48 to 72 hours to pay the Rs. 2,000 participation fee and confirm their seat.
