Overview

The National Drafting Championship 2026 (Virtual) is a national-level academic competition organised by the Pro Bono Club of Asian Law College (ALC), Noida. It is designed to build analytical thinking, structured writing, research aptitude, and problem-solving skills among participants from diverse educational backgrounds.

The championship runs across five distinct segments under one umbrella, giving you a platform to engage with contemporary legal, governance, policy, and societal issues. Registrations close on 1 July 2026, with the final submission deadline on 15 July 2026.

About the organiser

Asian Law College (ALC), Noida is one of India's well-known institutions for legal education. Affiliated with Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU), it is approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), offering integrated B.A. LL.B. (5 year), B.Com. LL.B. (5 year), and LL.B. (3 year) programmes.

The competition is organised by ALC's Pro Bono Club, established under the aegis of the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India.

Segments

The championship offers five segments. You may register for a maximum of two segments.

  • Contract Drafting - prepare professionally structured, commercially viable, and legally enforceable agreements based on a scenario.
  • Treaty Drafting - draft a structured bilateral treaty addressing complex international legal issues, including dispute resolution mechanisms.
  • Legislative Drafting - formulate precise and coherent statutory provisions to regulate a given issue.
  • Policy Drafting - step into the role of a policymaker and draft a comprehensive, legally sound policy addressing regulatory gaps.
  • Essay Writing - present an original, well-structured essay reflecting on contemporary themes (open only to Class XI and XII students).

Who can participate

  • Drafting segments (Contract / Treaty / Legislative / Policy): students currently enrolled in any recognised college or university in India, pursuing a graduation or post-graduation degree from a duly recognised and accredited institution.
  • Essay Writing segment: open exclusively to students presently studying in Class XI and XII.
  • Co-authorship is restricted to a maximum of two bonafide students.
  • Cross-institutional teams are permitted, with no restriction on the number of participants from any single institution.

Rules and formatting

All submissions must be in English. Key conduct and formatting rules:

  • Plagiarism beyond 10% attracts penalties or disqualification.
  • Use of AI tools for substantive portions is prohibited; submissions found predominantly AI-generated beyond 10% will be disqualified.
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt body / 10 pt footnotes; line spacing 1.5; 1 inch margins; Bluebook 20th Edition citations; PDF format.
  • Submissions must carry only the Team Code with no participant names or institutional identity (to ensure anonymity).

Registration fee

Drafting segments (Contract / Treaty / Legislative / Policy):

  • Individual (single author): Rs. 500
  • Team (co-authors): Rs. 700

Essay Writing segment:

  • Individual (single author): Rs. 300
  • Team (co-authors): Rs. 500

Fees once paid are non-refundable. Payment can be made via the official ALC payment portal or bank transfer (HDFC Bank, A/c No. 50200034028362, IFSC HDFC0009239).

How to register

  1. Open the official Google registration form.
  2. Select the segment(s) you wish to register for (maximum 2).
  3. Fill in your participation details.
  4. Upload a valid payment receipt clearly indicating the transaction ID.
  5. Upload a scanned copy of your valid student ID card.
  6. Submit the form. A confirmation email with your unique Team Code will be sent within two days.
  7. Submit your draft via the link shared along with your Team Code, before 15 July 2026.

Checklist

  • Confirm your eligibility for the segment(s) you choose
  • Pay the applicable registration fee and keep the transaction ID
  • Have a scanned copy of a valid student ID ready
  • Complete and submit the registration form before 1 July 2026
  • Prepare your submission per the formatting rules and submit by 15 July 2026
