The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru invites applications for its Research Fellowships across multiple positions. The fellowships are offered on a contract basis and provide an opportunity to be part of NLSIU's rich intellectual environment, including its workshops, seminars, extensive library and digital resources, and publication platforms.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed in rounds. Applications received up to June 30, 2026 (11:59 pm) will be considered in the current (third) round of review.

Positions Available

  • Graduate Research Fellowship — 10 positions
  • NLSIU Postdoctoral Fellowship — 5 positions
  • University Research Fellowship — 5 positions

Eligibility / Who can apply

Graduate Research Fellowship: Graduate degree in law or postgraduate degree in social sciences, public policy or allied fields, with 0–3 years of work experience.

NLSIU Postdoctoral Fellowship: PhD in law, social sciences, public policy or allied disciplines awarded within the past three years, with no prior postdoctoral position elsewhere.

University Research Fellowship: PhD plus at least 10 years of teaching experience and an established record of publication in recognised journals.

Stipend & Duration

  • Graduate Research Fellowship: Rs 55,000 to Rs 65,000 per month; term of 3–6 months (short-term) or 1–2 years (long-term).
  • NLSIU Postdoctoral Fellowship: Rs 1,00,000 to Rs 1,50,000 per month for up to 2 years, with a 10% annual increase on satisfactory progress.
  • University Research Fellowship: Rs 1,70,000 to Rs 2,00,000 per month; term of 3 months to 2 years.

Location

Fellows are ordinarily expected to be on campus at NLSIU, Bengaluru during their fellowship period, with case-by-case flexibility in some instances.

The deadline for the current round is June 30, 2026 (11:59 pm). Applications received after this date will be considered in a subsequent rolling round.
