About the Journal

The NLUD Journal of Legal Studies (NLUD JLS) is the flagship student-run publication of National Law University, Delhi. It is an annual, student-edited, peer-reviewed law journal that provides a forum for discussion on issues of contemporary relevance in domestic and international law and policy. Volume VIII was launched by Justice B.V. Nagarathna in August 2026 and is available in the Journal's archives.

The Editorial Board invites submissions for the ninth volume of the Journal, due to be published in August 2027.

Eligibility and Co-Authorship

Submissions are invited from academics, researchers, practitioners and students.

  • Co-authorship is permitted up to a maximum of two additional authors, that is, a maximum of three authors for a submission.
  • The same piece may not be re-submitted in one review cycle, though the same author(s) may submit a separate piece.

Categories and Word Limits

  • Articles: 5,000 - 10,000 words, inclusive of footnotes
  • Essays: 3,000 - 5,000 words, inclusive of footnotes
  • Case Notes and Legislative Comments: 2,000 - 5,000 words, inclusive of footnotes
  • Book Reviews: 2,000 - 3,000 words, inclusive of footnotes

Word limits include the abstract but exclude ancillary text such as a Table of Contents and Bibliography, which authors are expected to remove from the submission.

Theme

There is no fixed theme. The Journal advises choosing a theme of contemporary relevance with an issue of law to be engaged with analytically. Papers on foreign themes, in any category, should also engage with their relevance in the Indian context.

Formatting and Submission Guidelines

  • Times New Roman, font size 12, 1.5 line spacing.
  • Citations must follow OSCOLA (5th Edition) and must be footnoted; endnotes are not accepted.
  • Submissions must be original, unpublished work and must not be under simultaneous consideration by any other publication.
  • All submissions are run through anti-plagiarism software; plagiarism in any form leads to instant rejection.
  • Strict AI policy: AI may not be used to generate any substantive content or citations. It is permitted only for proof-reading and basic sentence re-structuring.
  • Upon submission, the manuscript becomes the property of National Law University, Delhi, and is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence.

Review Process

The Journal follows a double-blind review process and considers manuscripts on a rolling basis. After review, manuscripts may be returned with suggested changes to content, style or structure, and acceptance may be made contingent on incorporating them. No communication about a manuscript should be made directly to any member of the Editorial Board; such communication may lead to disqualification.

How to Apply

Email the manuscript in Microsoft Word (.docx) format to nludjls@nludelhi.ac.in with the email title 'Submission - JLS'. Submissions are accepted only in electronic form. The call states no closing date: manuscripts are reviewed on a rolling basis for Volume IX, due for publication in August 2027.

Fee

The call for submissions does not mention any submission or publication fee.
