About the Journal

The NUALS Journal on Women, Family and Law (NJWFL) is an academic journal published by the National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi. It aims to promote interdisciplinary scholarship on women, family and human rights, and to advance gender-responsive legal solutions and policy making.

The journal is run by the Centre for Women and Family Studies (CWFS), a research centre of the University. This call is for the inaugural issue, which the Centre proposes to publish in March 2027.

Theme of the Issue

The journal welcomes writings on the theme Women, Family and Law: Perspectives on Equality and Justice. The Centre has identified a list of sub-topics, and states that the list is indicative rather than closed.

Categories and Word Limits

  • Research Articles: 6,000 to 7,500 words
  • Short Articles: 5,000 to 6,000 words
  • Case Comments: 2,500 to 3,000 words
  • Book Reviews: 2,500 to 3,000 words

Submission Guidelines

  • The manuscript must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere.
  • Co-authorship is permitted. The call does not state a cap on the number of authors.
  • All submissions go through a double-blind peer review process.
  • Manuscripts must be strictly anonymous. Author details go in a separate Word document attached to the same mail, carrying the author's name, designation, email, phone number and address.
  • Standard Indian Legal Citation is to be followed.
  • An abstract of not more than 300 words with five keywords is required, except for case comments and book reviews.
  • The call states no eligibility restriction and no submission or publication charge.

How to Submit

Email the manuscript to cwfs@nuals.ac.in with the subject line Journal Submission 2026. Name the manuscript file in the format AuthorName2026, for example Arunima2026. Attach the separate author-details document to the same mail. Submissions close on 20 October 2026, and the Centre proposes to communicate acceptance by 10 January 2027.

Conditions of Publication

  • Indemnity for liability: the journal assumes no liability for infringement, and authors bear full responsibility for all consequences.
  • Copyright: authors grant the journal an irrevocable, transferable, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to publish, reproduce and distribute their work in any format.
