About the Journal

The NUALS Law Journal (ISSN 2319-8273) is the flagship law review of the National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi. It is a multidisciplinary, double-blind peer-reviewed journal published bi-annually and edited by a student Editorial Board working with a Board of Advisors. Past volumes are carried in HeinOnline. The Journal is a sibling of, but distinct from, the NUALS Intellectual Property Law Review and the NUALS Securities Law Review.

About the Call

The Editorial Board of the NUALS Law Journal is inviting submissions for the first issue of its 21st Volume (Vol. 21, Issue 1). Submissions are welcome on any topic of law of contemporary relevance. Every manuscript goes through a rigorous double-blind review process and possible editing by the Editorial Board.

Who Can Submit

The call is open to academicians, legal practitioners, students and researchers from the legal community. A manuscript may not have more than three authors.

Categories and Word Limits

  • Legislative Comments: 1,500 to 3,000 words
  • Short Notes: 1,500 to 5,000 words
  • Case Comments: 1,500 to 5,000 words
  • Essays: 3,000 to 5,000 words
  • Articles: 5,000 to 10,000 words

Word limits are exclusive of footnotes. Speaking footnotes, where used, must be limited to 50 words. Manuscripts exceeding the word limit may still be considered on merit, solely at the discretion of the Editorial Board.

Submission Guidelines

  • Every submission must carry an abstract of not more than 250 words. The abstract must sit inside the manuscript itself, not in a separate document.
  • By submitting, the author undertakes that the work is original and has not been submitted to, accepted by or published elsewhere.
  • Plagiarism results in summary rejection.
  • Submissions must be in .doc or .docx format only.
  • The document must carry no identification markers, including the author's name below the title or in the file metadata. Any identification marker inside the manuscript results in summary rejection.

Formatting and Citation

All submissions must follow the NUALS Law Journal Citation Guide. Where a citation format is not prescribed in the Guide, the 20th edition of The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation applies. Manuscripts must also conform to the Journal's Style Guide, its Formatting Guide for dates, and its Language Guide for references to legislative and judicial bodies. The body text is set in Times New Roman size 12 with 1.5 line spacing; footnotes in Times New Roman size 10 with single spacing. Non-conformity is a ground for rejection.

Review Process

Manuscripts go through a double-blind peer review. Authors are given updates on the status of their manuscript after each stage of the editorial process, but the finality of publication rests on an evaluation of the fully formatted manuscript. On submission, the author consents to the Editorial Board storing and using the personal data supplied for the purposes of the review, and to editorial changes required by the Board.

Fee

There is no submission fee, processing charge or publication charge. The Journal is institutionally run and student-edited, and neither the submission guidelines nor the submission form states any payment.

How to Submit

Submissions are accepted only in electronic form, through the Journal's Google form for Volume 21, Issue 1. The form asks for the email, full name and professional details of each author, the manuscript title, the abstract, the manuscript file in .doc or .docx, and a declaration of originality and consent. A Google sign-in is needed to upload the file. Queries on the status of a submission go to lawjournal@nuals.ac.in.
