Officer (Legal) at BIRAC, New Delhi (Rs 60,000-2,10,000/month)

The Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) is a not-for-profit Public Sector Enterprise set up by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, to strengthen and empower emerging biotech enterprises to undertake strategic research and innovation. BIRAC operates from the NSIC Business Park, Okhla Industrial Estate, New Delhi.

BIRAC has invited online applications for the post of Officer (Legal) under its Make in India (MII) initiative (Vacancy Ref. No. BIRAC/PMU/VAC/174/June-2026, Position Code MII-LO-01). There is one (01) position, based at New Delhi. The Officer (Legal) will work for MII in close coordination with the Legal team in BIRAC and will be responsible for providing legal advisory services and ensuring effective management of legal and contractual risks for BIRAC. The person will report to the Mission Director - MII.

• Identify risk exposure and advise the management on contractual obligations and risks, including legal protection and risk management advice on contract management.
• Manage the legal due diligence process and review diligence reports.
• Review and advise management on legal implications of internal policies and procedures.
• Check legal eligibility of applicant entities under various schemes for each call.
• Draft contracts, MoUs, GLAs, GIAs and other agreements ensuring compliance with statutory and legal requirements, and provide detailed legal opinions on executed agreements.
• Provide legal assistance including vetting of MoUs, Collaborative Research Agreements, Partnership Agreements, Incubation Agreements, Facility Agreements, NDAs, IP licensing and IP assignment agreements.
• Draft GLA formats and guidelines, and amend Project Division guidelines in line with proposed changes.
• Act or plead on behalf of BIRAC in a Court of Law as an Advocate.

• Qualification: Post Graduate in Science with LLB from a recognized institution, or ACS/FCS from ICSI.
• Experience: Minimum 02 years of post-qualification experience handling corporate affairs, legal contracts, or intellectual property tracking within an organization.
• Domain expertise: Very good knowledge of drafting of contracts and Grant Letter Agreements, contractual obligations, and legal provisions regarding contracts and agreements.
• Desirable: Preference to candidates with interdisciplinary expertise in Science and Law, particularly in biotechnology, innovation, IP, regulatory affairs, technology transfer, or commercial contracts.
• Maximum age: 30 years as on the date of closing of application.

Consolidated remuneration between Rs 60,000 and Rs 2,10,000 lump sum per month, depending on qualifications and experience. The appointment shall be under 'Contract for Service', initially for a period of three (03) years or co-terminus with the project, whichever is earlier; the present duration of the project is till September 2026.
