One-Day National Workshop on Forensic Science in Investigation and Trial at NEF Law College, Guwahati [Offline; 22 August 2026; Fee Rs 300-500]

The Research and Development Committee of NEF Law College, Guwahati is holding a One-Day National Workshop on "Forensic Science in Investigation and Trial" on 22 August 2026. The sessions run from 10 AM onwards in the Seminar Hall of the college.

In its own announcement the college says the workshop has been conceived to give participants practical insight into the role of forensic science in criminal investigation and judicial proceedings, and to build a deeper understanding of the intersection between law and forensic practice. The programme is built around expert-led sessions and interactive discussions on forensic investigation, evidence handling and trial procedure.

The brochure describes the workshop as an interdisciplinary forum for legal scholars, forensic scientists and practitioners to evaluate the evolving scientific and statutory paradigms of the criminal justice system, and to close the gap between emerging laboratory technologies and judicial decision-making.

• To decipher the legal-scientific framework.
• To understand digital and cyber forensics.
• To navigate forensic science in criminal investigation and evidentiary justification in trial.

The brochure sets the discussion on three pillars.

• The police as custodians of the crime scene: scrutinising the critical protocols of first-response management, evidence preservation and chain of custody that protect biological and digital data from vulnerability.
• The forensic expert as the objective interpreter: the role of the expert witness in using breakthroughs such as next-generation DNA sequencing, handwriting analysis, cyber-forensics and advanced ballistics to translate complex laboratory data into legally sound, reproducible court evidence.
• The judge as the ultimate gatekeeper of justice: the judiciary's role in balancing scientific probability with legal certainty, filtering out junk science, and ensuring that novel forensic techniques align with constitutional safeguards and procedural due process.

The organisers note that improper crime scene management compromises critical data and leads to acquittals, and that presenting complex forensic evidence in court needs specialised skill, which is the operational gap the workshop sets out to address.

The official registration form lists the following participant categories: student, research scholar, faculty or academician, legal practitioner or advocate, judicial officer, law enforcement personnel from the police or an investigating agency, forensic science professional, government official, industry professional, and others.

• Students: Rs 300
• Research scholars, academicians, advocates, industry professionals and all other participants: Rs 500

The fee has to be paid before the registration form is filled. Payment can be made by UPI to rabbulsharif@ybl, or by scanning the QR code or using the bank account details printed on the brochure. A screenshot of the payment must be uploaded in the form, and the organisers confirm registration only after the payment is verified.

Registration is through the official Google Form linked below. The form asks for name, email address, mobile number, gender, participant category, name of the institution or organisation, department, designation or programme, city and state, together with the payment screenshot as a PDF or an image of up to 1 MB. The form records the respondent's Google account email and takes a file upload, so a signed-in Google account is needed.

The form closes on 16 August 2026. After registering, participants are asked to join the WhatsApp group linked inside the form for further information.
