The DPIIT IPR Chair at the Research and Development Cell, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, is running an Online Knowledge Series titled the Online Certificate Program on Patent and Tech-transfer. It is hosted through IIT Guwahati's Outreach Education and Skilling (OES) platform.

The program gives participants a structured grounding in the fundamentals, processes and practical side of patent protection and technology transfer. It covers the patent lifecycle, from patentability assessment, prior-art search, drafting, filing and prosecution to portfolio management and the commercialisation of patented technologies, with particular attention to licensing, valuation, negotiation, IP management and industry-academia collaboration.

Participants: minimum 50, no upper limit

Who Can Attend

Students, research scholars, faculty members, researchers, entrepreneurs, startups, MSMEs, industry professionals and IPR or technology-transfer professionals interested in patents, innovation and technology commercialisation. There is no specific prerequisite; basic familiarity with research or innovation is desirable but not mandatory.

Assessment and Certification

An online MCQ-based examination is held at the end of the course. Participants who take and pass the exam receive a Certificate of Completion. Participants who attend but do not take the exam receive a Certificate of Participation.

Fee

Attending the live sessions is free. A fee applies only to participants who opt for exam evaluation and the e-certificate (totals include 18% GST):

Students and IITG Alumni: Rs 400 + Rs 72 GST = Rs 472
Faculty Members: Rs 500 + Rs 90 GST = Rs 590
Industry / Other Participants: Rs 600 + Rs 108 GST = Rs 708

How to Register

To attend the free live sessions, fill in the Google Form linked on the official flyer. To take the exam and receive the e-certificate, register separately on the IIT Guwahati OES registration portal, selecting "Online Certificate Program on Patent and Tech-transfer", your category and an ID card upload (student, faculty or organisation ID, or a government photo ID).

The organisers have not published a registration closing date. The course runs until 7 November 2026, and sessions that have already taken place cannot be attended live, so register early.
