About the course and the organiser

The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), New Delhi, through its School of Industry at the Anil Agarwal Environment Training Institute (AAETI), is offering an online course on Global Climate Law and Governance: Regulations, Policy and Emerging Frontiers. CSE describes it as a one-stop course that introduces participants to the foundations of the global response to climate change, international frameworks alongside national action and its integration methods, and the legal and policy principles that define climate action with fairness and responsibility for development priorities.

The course aims to bridge foundational knowledge with future-facing developments, so that learners can navigate both the established architecture of global climate governance and its expanding frontiers.

Course content

  • Basic global climate law architecture and its governing institutions
  • Environmental principles including transboundary harm, the precautionary principle and polluter pays
  • Notable climate cases such as the ICJ Advisory Opinion on Climate Change
  • Net zero and its integration into national planning
  • Climate action policy mechanisms such as carbon markets and taxation
  • Creative outreach methods for building climate change awareness
  • New frontiers like deep sea mining, plastics treaty negotiations and EPR frameworks

Training agenda highlights

The official agenda lists 25 sessions over 11 days, including:

  • Basics of international law and principles of international environmental law as applied to climate change
  • The Conference of the Parties (COP): origins, functioning and why it matters to stakeholders
  • Indian constitutional ethos and its intersection with global climate law
  • Climate litigation and climate justice, the ICJ Advisory Opinion, and landmark cases including MK Ranjitsinh v Union of India and the Shell / RWE cases
  • The Global Plastics Treaty and the law of the sea
  • The Paris Agreement, net zero, carbon tax and common but differentiated responsibilities
  • Desertification, biodiversity and multilateral environmental agreements
  • Two quizzes, including a final comprehensive assessment, and a closing live Q and A on 1 November 2026

Payment is made online through the CCAvenue payment gateway after submitting the registration form.

How to apply

Fill in the online registration form on the CSE website (email, name, address, organisation, designation, contact number and your expectations from the training). On submission you are taken to the CCAvenue payment gateway; confirmation of registration and payment is sent to your email (CSE asks you to check your spam folder too).

The registration page states: Registration open, limited seats available. CSE does not publish a separate last date for registration; the course begins on 22 October 2026, so register before then and preferably early, as seats are limited.
