P. A. Sangma Fellowship for Legal and Policy Research, Sixth Cohort, by NLSIU Bengaluru and Govt of Meghalaya (4 Fellows; Rs 60,000 per month + HRA; NLSIU and Meghalaya Domicile Law Graduates)

The P. A. Sangma Fellowship for Legal and Policy Research is a research fellowship offered by the Government of Meghalaya and run jointly with the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru. NLSIU signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Law, Government of Meghalaya on 4 April 2022 to jointly offer the Fellowship, and the present positions are filled under that MoU.

The Fellowship exposes its Fellows to the complex social and economic challenges of Meghalaya, a Sixth Schedule State, and asks them to generate interventions after analysing legal and policy frameworks in collaboration with senior policymakers of the State Government. It is named after Shri P. A. Sangma, former Chief Minister of Meghalaya and Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

NLSIU has invited applications for four (4) Research Fellow positions in the sixth cohort. These are full-time positions based out of Meghalaya, for 12 months, extendable. Research Fellows are mentored jointly by Nodal Officers of the Government of Meghalaya and NLSIU. The notice states that the Fellowship begins in the first week of October 2026.

• Monthly stipend of Rs 60,000 (Rupees Sixty Thousand).
• Monthly house rent allowance of Rs 10,000 (Rupees Ten Thousand).

The Fellowship is open to two categories of candidates only:

• Graduates of NLSIU, Bengaluru holding a Bachelor's or Master's degree from the University (the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M. and M.P.P. programmes).
• Domicile citizens of Meghalaya holding a law degree from any university.

Law graduates from other universities who are not domiciled in Meghalaya are not eligible.

• An updated CV or resume of not more than two pages.
• A statement of purpose of up to 1,000 words.
• Details of two references, with their contact details.

There is no application fee.

Eligible and shortlisted candidates will be interviewed. On selection, the Government of Meghalaya will provide the terms of reference for the Fellowship.
