The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, runs an internship scheme for students pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate degrees and for research scholars. The objective is to give students exposure to the working culture of the Government of India and to the schemes run by the Department.
Law is one of the listed disciplines, so law students and legal researchers can apply directly through DPIIT's online portal.
DPIIT's online portal opens twice a year: 1 March to 30 April, and 1 September to 31 October.
The current window closes on 31 October 2026, for the November 2026 to January 2027 slot. The September-October database is deleted from the server at the end of January.

Candidates from other domains may also be considered on a case to case basis, depending on requirements. The application form notes that applicants must be at least 18 years old.
The stipend is processed by the Establishment (Estt. G) Section after the internship ends, on submission of a certificate from the section concerned confirming that the assigned work was successfully completed.
