Paid Internship at Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), New Delhi, October-December 2026 [LLB/LLM Students; Rs 10,000 Stipend for the Whole Period to Deserving Interns]

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is a statutory body established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 under the aegis of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. It is the apex body responsible for ensuring food safety and compliance with food standards across the country.

By a circular dated 21 September 2026, FSSAI has invited online applications for internships starting in the October-December 2026 quarter under its Internship Scheme 2024. The programme offers interns learning opportunities in various areas of food regulation and food safety administration.

Only students currently pursuing a full-time graduate, postgraduate or higher degree from a recognised institution in India or abroad may apply, in any of the following:

• Bachelor or Master of Law (the live application form limits law students to FSSAI HQ, New Delhi)
• Business Administration and Management, including policy regulation, finance, taxation law, marketing, psychology, human resources, economics, statistics, ICT, entrepreneurship and related fields
• Postgraduate degree or diploma in Public Policy or Public Administration (FSSAI HQ only)
• PG diploma or degree in Journalism, Mass Communication and Public Relations
• Bachelor of Commerce and equivalent courses
• Postgraduate degree, B.Tech or BE in food, life and allied sciences such as Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Technology, Food Science and Technology, Food and Nutrition, Microbiology, Dairy Technology, Public Health, Toxicology or Biotechnology
• B.E. or B.Tech (3rd and 4th year only) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or a related stream

Students who have already completed these courses need not apply, and multiple applications will not be entertained. Candidates must make sure the place they opt for offers their subject; FSSAI laboratories take only technically qualified candidates.

Internships are offered at FSSAI HQ, New Delhi; the Regional Offices at Mumbai (WRO), Ghaziabad (NRO) and Chennai (SRO); and the National Food Laboratories at Ghaziabad, Kolkata, Raxaul (Kolkata extension centre), Chennai and Mumbai. Law students may opt only for FSSAI HQ, New Delhi.

Subjects listed for HQ and the Regional Offices include human resources, information technology, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, science and standards, imports, trade and international matters, policy coordination, social and behavioural change, training, procurement and general administration, regulation, and food imports clearance and licensing; the laboratories offer food sampling and testing. The areas chosen in the application are treated as preferences only, not a confirmed project allocation. Interns are attached to a Division at HQ, a Regional Office or a laboratory and assigned projects based on their academic background.

Internships run on a quarterly basis throughout the year. The minimum duration is 2 months, which may be extended to a maximum of 6 months. No internship shorter than 2 months is offered. Requests to extend the joining date by more than a week will not be accepted.

• Stipend: Rs 10,000 for the whole internship period (not per month), paid to deserving interns on the recommendation of the Office or Division they are attached to. Deserving interns are identified by attendance, assessment by the reporting officer, and evaluation of their reports by the Divisional Head (HQ) or Director (Regional Offices and laboratories).
• Certificate: All interns receive a certificate on successful completion, that is, on submission and review of the final report or presentation.

Interns must bring their own laptops. FSSAI provides working space, internet and other necessities, but does not cover local lodging, travel or boarding expenses.

• Applications are scrutinised by Nodal Officers nominated for the internship.
• Candidates may be asked to submit a short write-up or presentation through the application portal for final selection.
• The list of selected candidates, with their joining dates and internship tenure, is published on the FSSAI website. The announcement date and the date of joining will be communicated.
• Candidates who applied for an earlier quarter and were not selected must apply again.

Fill in your name and email to save the form; your application code is sent to the registered email, and you can log in later to complete and submit it. Read the advertisement and the portal instructions before applying.

At joining, selected interns must carry a letter from their institution confirming their student status, a No Objection Certificate for the internship period, a character certificate from the institution, and proof of educational qualifications.
