About the Position

NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad invites applications for the post of Legal Consultant (Maritime Law) on a contractual basis, in collaboration with the Directorate General of Shipping, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India, Mumbai.

There are 3 (three) posts. The consultants will be based at the Directorate General of Shipping (HQ), Mumbai. The advertisement is dated 22 September 2026 and was posted on the NALSAR job openings page on 29 September 2026.

Eligibility

  • Qualification: LL.M in Maritime Law, LL.M in Insurance Law, LL.M in Maritime Security Law or LL.M in International Law.
  • Experience: preferably 1 to 2 years.
  • Age: below 35 years as on 30 September 2026.
  • Language: applicants must be fluent in English.

The prescribed qualifications and experience are the minimum; candidates with higher qualifications will be given preference in short-listing.

Remuneration, Tenure and Location

  • Remuneration: Rs 60,000 per month (consolidated).
  • Tenure: initially for one year, extendable based on performance.
  • Location: Directorate General of Shipping (HQ), Mumbai.

Selection Process

Short-listed candidates will be called for an interview, on the basis of which the final selection will be made. The University may set up a Screening Committee to scrutinise applications and may restrict the number of candidates called for the online interview on the basis of qualifications and experience higher than the minimum prescribed. Call letters will be sent only to short-listed candidates, and no correspondence will be entered into with others.

  • The University may consider suitable persons who have not applied but are recommended by experts in the field.
  • The University may relax any of the qualifications or experience requirements.
  • Canvassing in any form will disqualify the candidate.
  • No interim queries regarding the test, interview or selection will be entertained.
  • The University reserves the right not to fill any of the vacancies.
  • Jurisdiction for any dispute is restricted to the courts in Hyderabad.
