About the engagement

The Brahmaputra Board, a statutory body under the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, has issued Advertisement No. E-1992 dated 24 July 2026 inviting applications for engagement of Young Professionals on fixed remuneration. Twenty-one posts are advertised across twenty specialisations, and one of them is Young Professional (Law).

The engagement is initially for one year from the date of joining and may be extended or curtailed as per the functional need of the Board. Extensions are considered case to case, subject to functional requirements and satisfactory performance.

Roles and responsibilities of the Law post

  • Provide legal assistance in matters related to contracts, tenders, agreements and statutory compliances.
  • Draft, vet and review legal documents, affidavits, pleadings, MoUs and notices.
  • Assist in handling court cases, arbitration matters and legal correspondence.
  • Coordinate with advocates, legal authorities and government departments.
  • Maintain records of legal cases and assist in timely compliance of legal requirements.
  • Prepare affidavits and collect data from the Field Offices.

Eligibility and age limit

Essential qualification: Law Graduate, with 2 years of experience of practice with a Senior Advocate of a High Court.

Desirable: research experience and experience in publication of papers in the relevant field would be preferred.

Upper age limit: 30 years. The advertisement states that the upper age limit shall be determined as on the closing date of application, that is 26 August 2026.

Remuneration and place of posting

The Law post carries a consolidated monthly remuneration of Rs 40,000 (Rupees forty thousand) per month. The advertisement adds a general note that emoluments are negotiable in the case of deserving candidates, and that the number of posts is indicative and may be varied as per administrative requirement.

The place of posting is Brahmaputra Board (HQ), Basistha, Guwahati - 781029, Assam.

What the remuneration does not include

  • No contribution towards CPF, GPF or any other retirement benefit for the period of engagement.
  • No Government accommodation or House Rent Allowance, no Leave Travel Concession, no medical reimbursement, no regular leave benefits and no reimbursement of telephone, mobile or newspaper expenses.
  • No allowances or benefits other than the consolidated remuneration.
  • Leave up to 8 days in a calendar year on a pro-rata basis. Absence beyond that is treated as Leave Without Pay with proportionate deduction, subject to approval of the Controlling Officer.
  • For approved official domestic tours, TA/DA is admissible at the entitlement applicable to officers at Level-8 of the Pay Matrix in the Board. No TA/DA is payable for attending the interview or for joining.

Terms of engagement

The engagement is purely contractual and confers no right to regular appointment or continuation beyond the sanctioned period. Engagement as a Young Professional is expressly not employment under the Government, and no claim for regularisation or absorption in the Board will be entertained.

The engagement is full-time. The Young Professional may not take up any other assignment, employment or consultancy during the period of engagement. A declaration of secrecy applies, with the Board's prior sanction required before publishing books, articles or broadcasts using information gathered during the engagement, and the provisions of the Official Secrets Act, 1923 are attracted.

The Board may terminate the engagement at any time without assigning reasons, normally with one month's notice or salary; the Young Professional may also exit on one month's notice. Summary termination without notice applies in cases of misconduct, professional negligence or breach of terms. Guwahati is the place for settlement of all disputes. An Experience Certificate is issued on satisfactory completion of the tenure, on submission and evaluation of the Performance Report or Paper by the Controlling Officer.

Selection procedure

Applications received through the online portal are scrutinised against the prescribed eligibility criteria. Shortlisted candidates may be called for a Personal Interview or Interaction, or any other selection methodology decided by the Board. Original certificates and documents supporting educational qualifications, experience, age and category must be produced at the interview or document verification stage and again at joining.

Selection is based on the recommendations of the Departmental Selection Committee constituted by the Brahmaputra Board. The Board reserves the right to modify the selection procedure, restrict the number of candidates called for interview, reject applications without assigning reasons, and decide not to fill any or all of the advertised positions. Performance against goals set by the Board is reviewed quarterly by the Controlling Officer.

How to apply

Applications are accepted exclusively online through the recruitment portal linked from https://brahmaputraboard.gov.in/recruitment, which opens the Board's application portal at bbrecruit.com. Applications sent by email, speed post, hand delivery or any other offline mode will not be entertained under any circumstances. The portal states that there is no application fee, and that a candidate may submit multiple applications, each creating a separate application record.

Fill in all mandatory fields and upload a recent passport-size photograph, signature, educational qualification certificates, experience certificates where applicable, and the other requisite supporting documents. Applications that are incomplete or submitted without the prescribed documents or formats are liable to be summarily rejected without further correspondence. Any discrepancy, suppression of material facts or false information leads to cancellation of candidature at any stage.

The last date for submission of the online application is 26 August 2026, being 30 days from the date of issue of the advertisement.
