Para Legal Volunteers at District Legal Services Authority, Kokrajhar, Assam (15 Posts; Local Residents Only; Apply by Oct 15)

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kokrajhar, headed by the District & Sessions Judge as its Chairman, has issued Advertisement No. 01 of 2026 (No. DLSAK-28/2026, dated 19 September 2026) inviting applications for the engagement of 15 Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) under the Authority. The notice was published on the website of the Kokrajhar District Judiciary on 20 September 2026.

• Educating people about their constitutional and legal rights, and making them aware of the nature of their disputes, issues and problems.
• Visiting police stations and ensuring that an arrested person gets legal assistance where necessary.
• Assisting victims of crime in getting proper compensation.
• Visiting Children's Homes and Observation Homes and providing legal services to the inmates.
• Generating awareness about the benefits of settling disputes through Lok Adalats, conciliation, mediation and arbitration.

• The applicant must be a citizen of India and a local resident of Kokrajhar District.
• The applicant must have attained the age of majority.
• The applicant should have passed at least matriculation.

As per the Scheme for Para Legal Volunteers framed by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), PLVs can be selected from: teachers (including retired teachers); retired government servants and senior citizens; MSW students and teachers; Anganwadi workers; doctors and physicians; students and law students (till they enrol as lawyers); members of non-political, service-oriented NGOs and clubs; members of women's neighbourhood groups, Maithri Sanghams and other self-help groups, including marginalised and vulnerable groups; educated prisoners with good behaviour serving long-term sentences; and any other person whom the DLSA deems fit to be identified as a PLV.

• The work of a PLV does not carry any salary, remuneration or wages, except the honorarium fixed by NALSA / the Assam State Legal Services Authority from time to time, as per rules. The notice does not state the amount.
• The engagement may be terminated at any time without assigning any reason if the PLV is not found suitable to continue.
• No TA/DA will be provided for appearing in the interview.
• Canvassing, directly or indirectly, will disqualify the candidate.

Applications are to be made offline in the standard form. The filled-up application must be accompanied by two recent passport-size photographs and self-attested copies of all testimonials and documents relating to age, residence, educational qualification, caste and past work experience (if any). Applicants must give their mobile number in the application for further communication.

Submit the application at the office of the District Legal Services Authority, First Floor, District & Sessions Judge Court Building, Kokrajhar, on or before 15 October 2026 (till 5 PM). Applications may also be sent by post or courier, but the Authority is not responsible for any postal or courier delay. Incomplete applications will be rejected, and no application will be entertained after the last date. The published notice does not attach a specimen form, so applicants may confirm the format with the DLSA office.

A Selection Committee will short-list candidates for interview and select the PLVs; its decision, including on any objection regarding selection, is final and binding. The list of eligible candidates for interview will be notified on the official website of the Kokrajhar District Judiciary. No separate call letter will be issued and there will be no other mode of communication, so applicants should check the website regularly. The Selection Committee may alter any term or condition, including the selection criteria, with notice published only on the same website.
