Parley 6.0 Debate Competition 2026 (Online) by Kanoria School of Law for Women, Jaipur [September 8-9; Cash Prizes Worth Rs 20,400]

Kanoria School of Law for Women, previously known as Rajasthan School of Law for Women, was established in 2018 in the Kanoria College campus, Jaipur. The college is affiliated with Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Law University, Jaipur, and approved by the Bar Council of India.

The institution works on developing new arenas of legal education that help young women become qualified lawyers carrying a profound and long-lasting respect for human dignity, social justice and fairness. Alongside academics, the college runs debates, co-curricular activities, seminars, webinars, symposia, conferences, legal aid activities, cultural events, moot court competitions and internships every year. The campus is located near Gandhi Circle, J.L.N. Marg, Jaipur, Rajasthan 302015.

The Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission is one of the leading state commissions in the country and functions as a watchdog for human rights in the state. It is an autonomous, high-power human rights watch body that derives its authority from the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, under which human rights are defined in Section 2(d) as those justiciable rights enforceable in a court of law in India.

The Commission is associated with Parley 6.0 and sponsors all of the cash prizes for the competition. Justice G. R. Moolchandani, Chairperson of the Commission, is the Chief Patron of the event.

Parley 6.0: Debate Competition runs online on 8 and 9 September 2026 under the theme “Think. Argue. Advocate. Transform.” It offers students a platform to engage with diverse social and legal issues through critical thinking and persuasive argumentation.

The competition aims to strengthen research, analytical reasoning, public speaking and presentation skills, while fostering confidence, composure and intellectual rigour. It gives participants an opportunity to explore contemporary issues, challenge perspectives and develop well-reasoned positions, preparing future legal professionals to advocate their ideas with confidence.

Parley has run since 2021. The 2021 edition drew 40 teams (80 participants), Parley 2.0 in May 2022 drew more than 85 teams (170 participants), Parley 3.0 in June 2023 drew 80 teams (160 participants), and Parley 4.0 (May 2024) and Parley 5.0 (June 2025) were both held in association with the Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission.

• Team members must be valid undergraduate students pursuing a recognised Bachelor of Laws programme, meaning a 3-year or 5-year integrated law course recognised by the Bar Council of India.
• Each team shall comprise two participants.
• Students from the same law college or university can participate as a team, and students from different law colleges or universities can also team up.
• A maximum of 3 teams per institute, college or university are allowed to participate, selected on a first-come, first-served basis.
• Winners of previous editions of the Parley Debate Competition are not eligible for this edition.

• Preliminary (Round 1): Right to die with dignity is a facet of the right to life.
• Semi-Final (Round 2): Female intestate succession, reform or retention.
• Final (Round 3): Developed nations bear greater responsibility for combating climate change.

In the semi-final and final rounds the motion assigned to each speaker is decided by a draw of lots, so participants are advised to prepare both sides of the motion in advance.

The competition consists of three online rounds: the preliminary round, the semi-final round and the final round.

• Preliminary round: conducted online through virtual rooms, with the number of rooms depending on the entries received. A proportionally equal number of participants qualify for the semi-final from each virtual room. Each team fields two speakers, one for the motion and one against, decided by the participants themselves. Each candidate gets 3+1 minutes. There is no rebuttal and no questions in this round.
• Semi-final round: selection is on an individual basis, so the whole team need not qualify. Only 16 participants are selected. The motion is given by the organisers after the preliminary results are declared. Each candidate gets 3+1 minutes. There is no rebuttal, but judges may ask questions.
• Final round: the top 6 participants qualify. The motion is given by the organisers after the semi-final results are declared. Each candidate gets 5+1 minutes. There is no rebuttal, and judges will ask questions.

The medium of the competition is English only. The dress code is Western or Indian formals, and participants must adhere to it.

Debates are evaluated on organisation and clarity, presentation style, knowledge of the subject, originality and ingeniousness, and the ability to deal with questions concisely and effectively, the last applying only in the semi-final and final rounds.

• Speakers shall not disclose their identities and shall represent themselves only by the team codes allotted after successful registration.
• It is mandatory to keep college ID cards on hand at the time of the competition.
• Use of foul or obscene language will lead to disqualification.
• Participants may use any source of information during the preparatory period, but no book, document or electronic gadget is allowed during the competition itself.
• The decision of the panel of judges is final and binding, and the organisers reserve the right to alter the rules or procedures of the competition.
• All rounds are conducted virtually. The video conferencing platform, meeting link and schedule are shared by email in advance. Microphones stay muted except when addressing arguments, cameras must stay on while presenting, and participants must report at least 15 minutes before their scheduled time.
• Any alleged rule violation must be raised with the organising committee within half an hour of the completion of the round concerned. Teams must not approach the judges with complaints.

Teams register by filling out the official Google Form on or before 3 September 2026. The composition of a team cannot be changed once the team has registered.

On successful submission, teams receive an email from the organisers carrying their team code and confirming registration. Teams that do not receive this email should immediately write to sociolegalrslw@gmail.com with their registration details or contact the organising committee directly.

The registration fee is Rs. 400 per team, paid to the account of Kanoria School of Law for Women, account number 0247000101294446, IFSC code PUNB0024700, PNB Bank, Bapu Nagar branch, Jaipur. Payment can be made through NEFT, Paytm, GPay or PhonePe by choosing the bank transfer option. The registration form requires uploads of a college ID screenshot for each of the two speakers and a payment screenshot.

The registration fee is non-transferable and non-refundable, except where an institution sends more than 3 entries, in which case that amount is refunded within one week of the completion of the debate.

It is mandatory to attend the inaugural and valedictory ceremonies to receive the certificate of participation. All participants receive e-certificates.
