The PhD Workshop on State, Citizenship and Mobilisations in Contemporary India is jointly organised by the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, the Saxena Center for Contemporary South Asia at Brown University, USA, and the Madras Institute of Development Studies (MIDS), Chennai. To be held at the NLSIU campus in Bengaluru on 10-11 August 2026, the workshop brings together doctoral scholars whose work engages with questions of state formation, citizenship, rights and social mobilisation in contemporary India.
Selected participants will present their doctoral research and receive close feedback from a panel of faculty mentors drawn from the three collaborating institutions, alongside peer discussion across disciplines.
Doctoral candidates working across the social sciences, humanities, law, public policy, planning, geography, history, anthropology, sociology, political science, economics and related fields are eligible to apply.
