About the Competition

Modern Education Society's New Law College, Mumbai is holding the Prin. Y. P. Phanse Memorial 4th State Level Online Essay Competition 2026 on the theme Women's Rights and Their Protection. The competition is conducted entirely in online mode. The registration link opened on 3 August 2026 and both registration and essay submission close on 22 August 2026 at 6:00 pm. Results are declared on 15 September 2026.

About the Organiser

New Law College was established in 1954 and is one of the older law colleges in Mumbai. It operates under the Modern Education Society and is located at Senapati Bapat Marg, opposite Matunga Road Station (W. Rly), Mahim, Mumbai 400 016.

The college states its vision as achieving excellence in imparting legal education so as to meet social and professional needs, and spreading legal awareness. Its stated mission covers creating an environment that nurtures ethics, leadership and team building; developing dispute resolution skills through knowledge and hands-on experience; and providing industrial experience to narrow the gap between academics and industry.

Objective of the Competition

As stated by the organisers, the objective of this research-based essay writing competition is to encourage participants to combine research-oriented, evidence-based analysis with their own opinion on contemporary issues concerning women. The competition aims to cultivate critical thinking, independent research and effective written communication, while inspiring meaningful engagement with questions of equality, justice and social change.

The organisers note that conducting the competition online gives participants the flexibility to undertake comprehensive research, access diverse and credible sources, and produce well-informed and original essays.

Essay Topics

Each participant selects one of the following five topics on the registration form:

  • Need for reformation in personal laws for woman equality.
  • Punished for Speaking Up: The Social and Psychological Burden on Women Reporting Crimes.
  • Constitutional Morality vs. Religious Practices: Women's Autonomy in India.
  • Intersectionality in Leadership: Understanding the Unequal Treatment of Women Leaders.
  • Mental Health and Women: A Matter of Rights, Dignity, and Care.

Eligibility

The registration form is open to students enrolled in an undergraduate course. Participants declare which UG course they are enrolled in, from these options:

  • LLB (3 Years Course)
  • LL.B (5 Years Course)
  • Other than Law Course / Degree Course

Entries are made in the name of an individual candidate. The official name of the competition describes it as a state level competition.

Registration Fee and Payment

The registration fee is Rs 300 per participant, paid to the college's own bank account before completing the form. The account details published on the official registration form are:

Participants must take a screenshot or download the payment receipt and upload it on the registration form. The upload accepts one file of up to 10 MB.

How to Register and Submit

Registration is through the official Google Form linked below. The form asks for the candidate's full name as it should appear on the e-certificate, email address, mobile number (preferably WhatsApp), the name of the college, institute or university, the UG course of enrolment, the chosen essay topic, and the uploaded payment receipt.

The essay itself is not uploaded on the form. Submission of the essay is only through email to mesnlcevent@gmail.com, on or before the deadline.

Results and Certificates

Results will be declared on 15 September 2026 and will be sent to the registered email address only. The registration form collects the candidate's name in the form they wish it to appear on the e-certificate.

Note that the organisers have not published a separate rulebook or brochure on the college website.
