The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru has issued Notification No. 15/2026, dated 18 September 2026, inviting applications for the post of Professor (Law) on a permanent basis. NLSIU was established in 1987 and, as the notification records, has been ranked first among law universities in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for the last eight years.

The University is looking for exceptionally well-qualified individuals dedicated to academic teaching, scholarship and institutional service.

Posts, pay and terms

Post: Professor (Law).
Vacancies: 5 (3 Unreserved, 2 Scheduled Caste).
Pay structure: Level 14, as per the VII CPC.
Appointment: permanent, till the age of superannuation (65 years), subject to confirmation after satisfactory completion of two years' probation.

Subject areas (indicative)

All major law subjects, including Contracts, Property, Criminal Law, Torts, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Intellectual Property Rights, Company Law, Labour Law, Public International Law, Human Rights, Family Law, Jurisprudence, Civil Procedure, Environmental Law, Taxation Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Conflict of Laws and Financial Sector Regulation.

Eligibility (Appendix A, per UGC Regulations, 2018)

Essential for all posts: a Master's degree with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade). A 5% relaxation applies at the graduate and master's level for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and differently abled candidates, and for Ph.D. holders who obtained their Master's degree before 19 September 1991. Grace marks are not counted.

For Professor (Law), either:

(A) an eminent scholar with a Ph.D. in the concerned, allied or relevant discipline, actively engaged in research, with a minimum of 10 research publications in peer-reviewed journals and a total research score of 120 under the UGC Regulations, 2018; and a minimum of ten years of teaching experience in a university or college as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor, and/or research experience at an equivalent level at a university or national-level institution, with evidence of having successfully guided a doctoral candidate; or
(B) an outstanding professional with a Ph.D. in the relevant, allied or applied discipline, from any academic institution or industry, who has made a significant contribution to knowledge in the discipline, supported by documentary evidence, and has ten years' experience.

Foreign nationals, OCI, NRI and PIO candidates are permitted to apply; confirmation of a selected candidate's appointment is subject to the necessary visa approvals from the Government of India.

How to apply

Applications are accepted online only, through the official application form (a Google Form; a Google sign-in is required to open it). Upload copies of all certificates supporting your educational qualifications, age and experience; forms without the certificates, or with incomplete information, will not be considered. The notification does not prescribe any application fee.

Candidates serving in Government, Public Sector Undertakings, Boards or autonomous bodies must submit a No Objection Certificate from their current employer at the time of interview, if not submitted earlier. Original documents must be produced at the time of joining.

Selection

The prescribed qualifications and experience are the bare minimum; meeting them does not by itself entitle a candidate to an interview.
Where applications are numerous, NLSIU may restrict the number of candidates called for interview.
