Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), a national open university established by an Act of Parliament (No. 50 of 1985), has invited online applications under Advertisement No. 01/2026/ACD dated 19.09.2026 for teaching posts on a direct recruitment basis across its Schools of Studies.

For the School of Law, the advertisement lists one post of Professor (Law), Unreserved (UR). No Associate Professor or Assistant Professor post is advertised in Law. The same advertisement also covers 42 other teaching posts in disciplines such as English, Sociology, Commerce, Journalism, Social Work and Foreign Languages.

The post of Professor carries Academic Level 14 of the 7th CPC (Rs 1,44,200 - Rs 2,18,200), as stated in the advertisement.

• Route A: an eminent scholar with a Ph.D. in the concerned/allied/relevant discipline and published work of high quality, with at least 10 research publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals and a total research score of 120 as per Appendix II (Table 2) of the UGC Regulations, 2018; and at least 10 years of teaching experience in a University/College as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor, and/or research experience at an equivalent level at University/National level institutions, with evidence of having successfully guided doctoral candidates.
• Route B: an outstanding professional with a Ph.D. in the relevant/allied/applied discipline, from an academic institution not covered by Route A or from industry, who has made a significant contribution to knowledge in the discipline, supported by documentary evidence, and has ten years' experience.
• A minimum of 55% marks (or an equivalent grade) at the Master's level, with a 5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PwBD candidates and for Ph.D. holders who obtained their Master's degree before 19 September 1991.
• Time spent acquiring an M.Phil. or Ph.D. is not counted as teaching or research experience.
• The cut-off date for eligibility is the last date of online application.

Applications are screened by a Screening Committee on the UGC Regulations, 2018 criteria set out in Appendix I of the detailed eligibility document (research papers, books, chapters, MOOCs and e-content, research guidance, projects and similar credentials). Candidates are ranked by score and up to 15 candidates per Professor post are called for interview. Screening marks are used only for shortlisting and carry no weight at the interview. No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.

• Rs 500 for UR/OBC/EWS candidates, paid online by credit/debit card or net banking.
• No fee for SC/ST/PwBD candidates.
• Applicants who applied under Advertisement No. 02/2022/ACD (31.12.2022) or 02/2023/ACD (15.10.2023) must apply afresh but are exempt from the fee on submitting proof of the earlier payment.
• Fees are not refundable. A separate application and fee are needed for each post.

Register and apply online on the IGNOU recruitment portal at cuignourec.samarth.edu.in between 20.09.2026 and 20.10.2026. IGNOU states that the last date is 20.10.2026 or 30 days from the publication of the advertisement in the Employment News, whichever is later.

Then send the hard copy of the submitted online application, with self-attested copies of all supporting certificates and documents (bound or tagged, pages numbered, in the sequence of the form), by registered/speed post to: Director, Academic Coordination Division, Indira Gandhi National Open University, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi 110068, to reach on or before 30.10.2026. Mark the envelope with the name of the post, discipline, School and Advertisement number.

Applicants already in service at universities, colleges, government bodies or PSUs must apply through proper channel and produce a No Objection Certificate and a Vigilance Clearance Certificate at the interview.
