About the opportunity

National Law University Delhi (NLUD) invites applications for one full-time Research Associate and two Field Researchers for its project on 'Preparation of India's Common Core Document (CCD) and National Report for the Fifth Cycle of Universal Periodic Review (UPR)'. The call is dated 7 October 2026.

The appointments are for six months with immediate joining. These are full-time contractual positions, and selected candidates must be physically present on the NLUD campus in Sector 14, Dwarka, New Delhi throughout the appointment.

Positions and remuneration

  • Research Associate (1 post): Rs 50,000 per month consolidated.
  • Field Researchers (2 posts): Rs 40,000 per month consolidated.

Eligibility: Research Associate

  • Postgraduate degree in Law (LL.M.) from a recognised Indian or foreign university with a good academic record.
  • Demonstrated understanding of doctrinal and empirical research methodologies.
  • Knowledge of substantive and procedural international human rights law.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Skilled in MS Office applications and other research tools.

Eligibility: Field Researchers

  • Graduate degree in Law or Social Sciences from a recognised Indian or foreign university, with a good academic record.
  • Demonstrated understanding of qualitative and empirical research methodologies.
  • Proficiency in English, including strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and other research and documentation tools.
  • Desirable: prior experience of working in a research project in public international law, international human rights law, criminal law or fundamental rights; knowledge of statistics and/or experience with data collection, analysis and documentation; prior experience in field research, stakeholder consultations, or research projects in law, human rights, social sciences or related areas.

Responsibilities

Research Associate:

  • Conduct legal and policy research relevant to India's UPR, including applicable international human rights standards and reporting obligations.
  • Assist in implementing the research methodology, stakeholder identification and stakeholder consultations.
  • Analyse and synthesise research findings and stakeholder inputs for incorporation into project outputs.
  • Assist in drafting and revising the UPR National Report and CCD.
  • Assist with project documentation, progress reporting, quality assurance, and other research, drafting and technical support.

Field Researchers:

  • Facilitate and support stakeholder consultations and coordinate field engagement with identified stakeholders.
  • Collect, document and compile consultation inputs and field data.
  • Maintain and organise project records, consultation records and research documentation.
  • Provide research and logistical support for stakeholder consultations and other project activities.

Selection process

  • Candidates are shortlisted on the basis of the application and materials submitted through the online form.
  • Only shortlisted candidates will be interviewed, and interviews will be held online.
  • If you do not hear from the University within 2 weeks after the deadline, assume your application has not been selected.
  • Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee an interview or offer, and NLUD reserves the right not to fill the positions.
  • Given the time-bound nature of the project, an appointment may be terminated for unsatisfactory work or performance with one week's notice or one week's salary in lieu of notice.
