About the Role

The Centre for International Law (CIL), National University of Singapore, is inviting applications for a Research Associate position with its International Economic Law and Policy (IELP) programme. Responsibilities

  • Support the Head of the International Economic Law and Policy programme with research on the programme's ongoing projects, including CIL's role as an official observer in UNCITRAL Working Group III, and initiatives on international economic law, climate change, and sustainable development.
  • Research the evolution of the international architecture for economic regulation and governance.
  • Assist in developing and organising CIL seminars and workshops, including the Singapore International Arbitration Academy.
  • Conduct research and complete at least one scholarly publication suitable for submission to a recognised academic journal by the end of the appointment.

Requirements

  • An LLM, JD, or other relevant degree, or equivalent professional experience.
  • A solid foundation in international economic law and/or policy, broadly understood (trade, investment, finance, or other areas of international economic regulation).
  • Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills.
  • A high degree of self-motivation, along with strong organisational and computer skills.
  • A minimum of two years of professional and/or research experience.

How to Apply

Interested applicants must apply directly through the official NUS Career Portal by 9 August 2026, submitting: a covering letter indicating experience, motivation for applying to CIL, and research interests; a detailed CV (no more than three pages) outlining educational and work history; one sample of written work; and the names and contact details of at least two academic referees. Applications missing these documents may be disregarded. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
