Research Fellow at Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy (Vidhi Bengal, Kolkata)

Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy is hiring a Research Fellow for Vidhi Bengal, its state office based in Kolkata. This is a full-time position focused on supporting the Government of West Bengal with high-quality legislative drafting, legal research and policy work.

Vidhi Bengal is the West Bengal office of the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, an independent think tank that works closely with government to make better laws and improve governance. The Research Fellow will work directly with government departments on legislation and policy for the state.

• Draft primary and subordinate legislation for the Government of West Bengal.
• Attend government meetings, consultations and briefings.
• Produce high-quality reports, research notes, briefs and position papers.
• Write op-eds, articles and blogs, and help create podcasts and videos.
• Manage work independently, stay organised and meet deadlines.

• An undergraduate law degree is essential.
• 0-2 years of relevant experience in public policy, litigation, law firms or internships.
• Strong legal research, drafting, communication and presentation skills.
• Desirable: a Master's in law or public policy, government/stakeholder interaction experience, a publication track record, graphic design familiarity and Bengali language fluency (strongly preferred).

Remuneration will be competitive, in line with experience and the existing pay structure at Vidhi. This is a paid, full-time role.
