About the Child Rights Centre, CNLU Patna

Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna is a National Law University established by Bihar Act No. XXIV of 2006, located at Nyaya Nagar, Mithapur, Patna. Its Child Rights Centre (CRC) carries out research, documentation and stakeholder engagement on child protection and child rights in Bihar.

Through Advt. No. CRC/2026-27 (Appt.)-04 dated 25 July 2026, the Centre has invited online applications for the position of Research Officer on a contractual basis under a project supported by UNICEF, Bihar.

Essential qualifications

Applicants must hold a Master's degree with at least 55% marks in Law, Social Work, Women's Studies, Child Rights, Development Studies, Sociology or any other related discipline from any recognised institution.

Desirable qualifications and skills

  • Minimum two years of relevant research experience in child protection, child rights, social development or related areas
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Fluency in English and Hindi
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications
  • Ability to conduct extensive literature review using academic and legal databases
  • Experience in collecting, analysing, interpreting and synthesising qualitative and quantitative data
  • Knowledge of data analysis software and survey tools such as SPSS, Excel, KoBo Toolbox and ODK
  • Ability to work under tight timelines and deliver high-quality output

Roles and responsibilities

The Research Officer will report to the Director and work in close coordination with the Centre Coordinator to advance the Centre's research and programme objectives in accordance with the requirements of CNLU CRC, UNICEF and other partners. The role covers:

  • Preparing research proposal documents aligned with the Centre's strategic research priorities
  • Conducting comprehensive literature review using academic, legal and policy databases
  • Designing research methodologies, tools, questionnaires and data collection instruments, and pilot-testing and refining them with partner organisations
  • Managing data compilation, validation and quality assurance, and analysing quantitative and qualitative data
  • Preparing research reports, policy briefs, concept notes and other knowledge products
  • Supporting documentation, dissemination and presentation of research findings
  • Assisting in organising consultations, workshops, meetings and stakeholder engagements
  • Maintaining project records and ensuring timely submission of deliverables and reports

Selection process and general conditions

Selection will be made purely on the basis of the candidate's previous record and performance in the interview. Shortlisted candidates will be informed of the time and venue of the interview by email only, and all correspondence with applicants will be through the same email ID. Candidates must produce original documents at the time of the interview, and no TA/DA will be paid for attending it.

The University reserves the right to withdraw the advertised post at any time without assigning any reason, to fill or not fill the post, and to relax any of the qualifications or experience requirements in deserving cases. The appointment is purely contractual and the appointee will have no claim to a permanent post. Canvassing in any form may lead to cancellation of candidature.
