About the Child Rights Centre, CNLU Patna

Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna is a National Law University established under the Chanakya National Law University Act, 2006 (Bihar Act No. XXIV of 2006). Its Child Rights Centre (CRC) runs research and programme work on juvenile justice and child protection in Bihar, and the present engagement sits within a project supported by UNICEF, Bihar.

Through Advt. No. CRC/2026-27 (Appt.)-02 dated 25 July 2026, the Centre has invited online applications for the position of Senior Consultant on a contractual basis. One post is on offer.

Position, tenure and professional fee

  • Post: Senior Consultant (01 post)
  • Nature of engagement: Consultant, purely contractual
  • Duration: Fifty (50) days, till December 2026. Continuation beyond December 2026 may be considered as per need.
  • Professional fee: Rs 10,000 per day (consolidated)
  • Place of work: Child Rights Centre, CNLU, Patna

Essential and desirable qualifications

Essential: Master's degree with at least 55% marks in Law, Social Work, Rural Development, Child Rights, Development Studies, Sociology or any other related discipline from any recognised institution.

Desirable qualifications and skills:

  • Minimum five years of relevant experience of working with stakeholders in the juvenile justice system, child protection, child rights, social development or related areas
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Fluency in English and Hindi
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications
  • Ability to conduct extensive literature review using academic and legal databases
  • Experience in collecting, analysing, interpreting and synthesising qualitative and quantitative data
  • Knowledge of data analysis software and survey tools such as SPSS, Excel, KoBo Toolbox and ODK
  • Ability to work under tight timelines and deliver high-quality outputs

Roles and responsibilities

The Senior Consultant will report to the Director of the Centre and work in close coordination with the Centre Coordinator, in accordance with the requirements of CNLU, the CRC and UNICEF Bihar. The work involves:

  • Documenting the evolution of the implementation of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 in Bihar
  • Assessing key milestones, reforms, innovations and achievements over the last ten years
  • Documenting promising practices and successful models at the state level and from selected districts
  • Capturing the perspectives of children, government officials, the judiciary, police, civil society organisations, caregivers and other stakeholders
  • Identifying implementation challenges and lessons learned
  • Developing recommendations to strengthen the juvenile justice and child protection system
  • Producing a high-quality publication and communication materials for dissemination

Deadline and extension

The original advertisement dated 25 July 2026 set 31 July 2026 as the last date. By a Date Extension Notice dated 6 August 2026, the Registrar extended the last date for submission of the application form with relevant documents to 10 August 2026. The same notice also extends the deadline for the Consultant (Public Finance for Children) and Research Officer posts at the Centre. All other terms and conditions of the advertisement remain unchanged.

Selection process

Selection is made purely on the basis of the candidate's previous record and performance in the interview. The advertisement had tentatively scheduled the interview for 2 August 2026 at CNLU, Patna; with the deadline now extended, the time and venue of the interview will be communicated to shortlisted candidates by email only, and all correspondence with applicants will be through that email ID.

Candidates must produce original documents at the time of the interview. No TA or DA is paid for attending the interview. Canvassing in any form may lead to cancellation of candidature. The University reserves the right to withdraw the advertised post, to fill or not fill it, and to make changes if necessary.
