Overview

The UILS Student Law Review (USLR) is inviting original, unpublished manuscripts for Volume III, Issue II (July–December 2026). USLR is a student-run, peer-reviewed and referred academic journal of the University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh, published bi-annually. It carries ISSN 3107-6750. The journal does not confine itself to any single branch of law and welcomes contributions on any contemporary legal issue. There is no submission or publication fee, and the submission deadline is 30 June 2026.

About the organiser

Established in 2004–05 as a constituent department of Panjab University, the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) has grown into a centre of excellence in legal education, located in Chandigarh (the University is NAAC accredited with an A++ grade). USLR is run by a student Editorial Board that manages manuscript review, editing and organisational work, under the guidance of the institute's leadership and faculty. The editorial team is led by Editor Suhani Salwan, with Co-Editors Jasmine Dhakarwal and Prasha Bhatia.

Submission categories

You can submit in any of the following categories. Word limits are exclusive of footnotes and may be relaxed at the Editorial Board's discretion based on the quality of the submission.

  • Articles — a comprehensive, descriptive analysis of an issue: 3,000–5,000 words.
  • Case Comments — a succinct analysis of a recent judicial pronouncement or landmark case: 1,500–3,000 words.
  • Legislative Comments — a detailed scrutiny of a proposed Bill, an Act or legislation: 1,500–3,000 words.
  • Book Reviews — a review of any law-related book: 1,500–3,000 words.

Who can submit

Submissions are open to students enrolled in 5-year integrated law courses and 3-year law courses, as well as LL.M. students and Research Scholars from recognised law schools across the globe. USLR adopts an inclusive approach and welcomes diverse perspectives on legal, social and policy-oriented questions.

Submission guidelines

Please make sure your manuscript meets the following requirements before you submit:

  • Every submission must include an abstract of not more than 250 words (in italics) and 5 keywords. Manuscripts without an abstract will be summarily rejected.
  • Co-authorship of not more than two authors is permitted.
  • USLR follows a one-author, one-submission policy; only the latest submission by an author will be considered.
  • All submissions must be original. Manuscripts exceeding a 15% plagiarism limit will be summarily rejected.
  • The manuscript must be anonymised and contain no information identifying the author(s).

Formatting and citation

USLR follows the Indian Law Institute (ILI) citation system (see ili.ac.in/cstyle.pdf); speaking footnotes and endnotes are highly discouraged.

  • Text justified.
  • Body: Times New Roman, size 12, 1.5 line spacing.
  • Footnotes: Times New Roman, size 10, single line spacing.
  • Do not divide the paper into chapters; use headings and sub-headings instead. Detailed style rules for the title, abstract and heading levels are set out in the brochure.
