The University of Pisa is holding the first edition of its Winter School "EU Fundamental Values as a Backbone for a Fair, Rules-Based Global Order: Promoting an Inclusive and Effective Multilateral System in the Wider World" from 1 to 4 February 2027. The programme is developed within the framework of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence EU4GlobalOrder at the University of Pisa, which works on how the European Union, by promoting its values within the EU and in the wider world, contributes to the development of and respect for international law.
In line with Article 3(5) TEU, the School focuses on the Union's obligation to promote its values in its relations with the wider world, and analyses the EU's external relations as a key driver of multilateralism and a fair, rules-based international order.
Hybrid. On campus at Aula VI, Palazzo della Sapienza, Via Curtatone e Montanara 15, 56126 Pisa, Italy, and also in distance learning mode on the Microsoft Teams platform. The enrolment form asks each applicant to choose online or on campus.
Participants attending in Pisa arrange their own travel and accommodation. The University's how-to-apply page asks applicants to check visa and insurance requirements.
Admission requirements: a high school diploma and an interest in European Union and international law topics. The School is also open to those who have never studied EU law. No nationality restriction is stated; foreign students upload a passport as their identity document, and the University states that an Italian tax code or residence permit is not required to enrol.
Tuition fee: EUR 250, paid online by debit/credit card or PayPal through the University's payment form, and only after receiving the admission letter. International students without an Italian tax code tick "Anonymous" on the payment form and type their name and surname in the "Reason" field.
Tuition fees are non-refundable, except when the School does not reach the minimum number of participants and is not activated.
Scholarships covering the tuition fee only (EUR 250) are available from the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence EU4GlobalOrder. The University's course page says they are awarded case by case on the applicant's academic and/or professional profile. The EU4GlobalOrder school page describes them as "development cooperation" scholarships for citizens of any non-EU country other than the USA, Canada, Australia and the UK. Travel, meals and accommodation are not covered.
