The European Society of International Law (ESIL), in partnership with the Faculty of Law, University of Malaga, will hold its XXI Annual Conference from 3 to 5 September 2026 in Malaga, Spain, on the theme "International Law and Conflict: An Enduring Tension?".
ESIL is one of the leading scholarly societies in international law, and its annual conference is the flagship gathering of the field's academic and practitioner community. The 2026 edition examines the persistent challenges and evolving dynamics of international law in times of conflict, against a backdrop of renewed geopolitical tensions, political polarisation, and pressure on multilateral institutions. The main conference is preceded by pre-conference workshops organised by the ESIL Interest Groups.
The conference is open to academics, researchers, doctoral candidates, legal practitioners, and students of international law who register through the official conference website. Attending an ESIL Annual Conference is a strong addition to the CV of anyone pursuing scholarship or practice in public international law.
Note: The call for papers and the pre-conference workshop submission windows have already closed. This listing is for registration and attendance only.
Registration is open. Complete your registration through the official conference website hosted by the University of Malaga. Registration fees apply, with separate rates for ESIL members and non-members. For queries, write to esil2026@uma.es.
