Tezpur University, a Central University established by an Act of Parliament and located at Napaam in Assam, has invited applications for two (02) posts of Assistant Professor on a contractual basis in its Department of Law.
The positions are advertised under Advertisement No. 21/2026 (Memo No. F.01-03/XVIII(E)/1590), issued by the Registrar i/c on 31 July 2026. The Department of Law sits within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The appointment is for a period of eleven (11) months, or until the regular vacancies are filled up, whichever is earlier. The advertisement provides for further extension based on requirement and satisfactory performance.
A fixed emolument of Rs. 80,000/- (Eighty Thousand only) per month shall be paid. The advertisement states expressly that no other allowances will be admissible.
A candidate qualifies under Route A by satisfying both of the following:
Candidates who have been awarded a Ph.D. degree in accordance with the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016 and their amendments are exempted from NET/SET/SLET.
Candidates who registered for the Ph.D. programme prior to 11 July 2009 are governed by the then-existing Ordinances of the awarding institution, and their exemption is subject to the Ph.D. having been awarded in regular mode, the thesis having been evaluated by at least two external examiners, an open Ph.D. viva voce having been conducted, two research papers having been published from the Ph.D. work (at least one in a refereed journal), and at least two papers having been presented at UGC/ICSSR/CSIR-sponsored conferences or seminars. These conditions must be certified by the Registrar or the Dean (Academic Affairs) of the university concerned.
Alternatively, a candidate qualifies under Route B if the Ph.D. degree has been obtained from a foreign university or institution ranked among the top 500 in the World University Ranking (at any time) by any one of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the Times Higher Education (THE), or the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Desirable: candidates holding a Ph.D. in the relevant branch or specialisation shall be preferred.
The advertisement also notes that NET/SLET/SET is not required for Master's programmes in disciplines for which the UGC, CSIR or a similar accredited body does not conduct the test, and that SLET/SET is valid as the minimum eligibility for direct recruitment within the respective state only.
Interested candidates must apply by e-mail to hod_law@tezu.ernet.in, using the prescribed formats at Annexure-I and Annexure-II of the advertisement, along with copies of testimonials and certificates.
The e-mail must carry the subject line: “Application for Assistant Professor (Contractual) against Advt. No. 21/2026”.
There is no application fee mentioned in the advertisement. Photocopies of certificates and marksheets are to be produced in hard copy at the time of interview.
The academic score specified under UGC Regulations, 2018, Appendix II (Table 3A) for universities is used only for short-listing candidates for interview; the selection is based solely on performance in the personal interview. Applicants must therefore submit the filled-in scoring form at Annexure-II.
Where a large number of candidates apply, those short-listed on the basis of academic qualifications and experience (per Annexure-II) will be called for interview. Eligible candidates shall appear before the Selection Committee physically, on a date to be notified in due course. The relevant UGC / AICTE / NCTE regulations apply to the minimum educational qualification and screening.
The cover page of the advertisement states that the last date for submission of the filled-in application by e-mail is “14.08.2025”. That year appears to be a typographical error carried over in the university's own document: the advertisement is numbered 21/2026, the covering memo is dated 31.07.2026, and the Registrar's signature is dated 31/7/26. The intended last date is therefore 14 August 2026, which is the date used on this listing.
Applicants are advised to send their application well before 14 August 2026 and, if in any doubt, to confirm the deadline with the Head, Department of Law at hod_law@tezu.ernet.in.
